Well, he had a good run, didn’t he? It’s a shame it’s probably over because this thing is even bigger than Barkley.
Even if you’re not into sports, you know that retired NBA superstar and current host of “Inside the NBA” Charles Barkley is not afraid to say whatever he wants whenever he wants. He’s an opinionated guy with an opinion on just about anything.
CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR NEWSLETTERI was at a club in Philly once called The River Deck (it has closed down since) and the place was crowded. I had a beer in my hand and was nearly knocked over from behind. From the force of the collision, my beer left my glass and joined the floor of the fine establishment. I turned around quickly to see what happened and there stood Charles. At the time, I loved the guy because he played for the 76ers. I shook his hand, and he said, “I’m really sorry about that. Let me take care of it.” He walked me over to the bar and asked what was I drinking. I said, “Coors Light.” He looked at me, smiled, and said, “Thanks for going easy on my budget.” Ever the smart-ass, but it was a perfectly timed joke. We got to talking, and he told me that he doesn’t drink when he goes out. His drink is tonic water and lime. He said that for some crazy reason, a lot of drunk guys at clubs grow a pair of beer nads and think they can beat up the 6’6″ 250-pound monster off the basketball court. And he pointed out that every time that happens, the press would blame him because he runs his mouth a lot. So, he doesn’t drink anymore when he goes out so that they can’t report he was drunk and the whole thing was his fauly.
I told you this story to show that Barley was a standup guy back then, and I liked him.
Unfortunately, Charles spoke out about the Bud Light boycott caused by the TikTok transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney controversy.
A successful boycott was launched against the beer maker since that fateful video came out showing that Anheuser Busch created a Bud Light can with Mulvaney’s face on it for a transgender promotional campaign.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELBud Light was the top-selling beer in the US for a long time. That all ended back in June when the boycott caused the company to lose roughly 30% of its business, and Modelo Especial, a Mexican beer, became the most popular beer sold in America.
Sir Charles, on the other hand, isn’t giving up his Bud Light. In fact, he has a straightforward message for those who are: “F*ck y’all.”
That’s right. Barkley is siding with Bud Light over their former consumers, and I am going to make a prediction that even Charles Barkley can not bring those consumers back to buying Bud Light. In fact, I think the perception that the beer maker must have paid Barkley to do such a thing will only piss them off more. I don’t know if the company did or not, especially since Barkley has always supported the LGBTQ+ movement.
Barkley took the stage at the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament in Lake Tahoe and addressed the fans, offering them free Bud Light and… well… some comments:
“I’m gonna buy some drinks for y’all. And I’m gonna buy Bud Light. And I’m gonna tell y’all something: All you rednecks or a*sholes who don’t want to drink Bud Light, f*ck y’all. Hey, y’all can’t cancel me,” Barkley said.
“I ain’t worried about getting canceled. Because let me tell you something, if y’all fire me and give me all that money, I’m gonna be playing golf every f*cking day. As I said last night, if you’re gay, God bless you. If you’re trans, God bless you. If you have a problem with them, f*ck you.”
