In a photo that popped up on social media, former University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas is wearing a tank top with the words “ANTIFA SUPER SOLDIER.” Oh, for the love of God.
Thomas, a biological male who suffers from a mental illness, identifies as a woman, and has previously made headlines by winning races against women. Some believe he’s faking the whole thing because he sucked so badly in the men’s league, and so he claimed to be a woman so he could win all the races… in the women’s league.

I haven’t specifically bashed Lia Thomas on anything (other than calling him an entitled narcissist which I stand by) because ultimately he was following the rules in place. But this is disturbing,” said Riley Gaines, a former University of Kentucky swimmer, in reaction to a tweet containing a photo of Thomas.

Gaines and Thomas finished in a tie for fifth place in the final of the 200-meter freestyle event at the NCAA Women’s Championships in 2022, as reported by swimmingworldmagazine.com.
When Thomas won the 500-meter freestyle in the 2022 NCAA Championships, pennathletics.com referred to him as “the first Quaker female swimmer to win an NCAA individual title.”
“Lia Thomas is not a brave, courageous woman who EARNED a national title. He is an arrogant, cheat who STOLE a national title from a hardworking, deserving woman. The @ncaa is responsible,” Gaines tweeted earlier this year.
The debate over whether biological men who identify as women should be permitted to play in women’s sports continues.
“The very simple answer is that I’m not a man,” Thomas told Sports Illustrated in 2022. “I’m a woman, so I belong on the women’s team. Trans people deserve that same respect every other athlete gets.”
He’s nuts.
