Democrats have been unable to advance the entirety of their radical Green New Deal through democratic means, so they are now urging President Joe Biden to use abstract threats and exploit genuine tragedies in order to get their way.
Biden has been unconstitutionally pushing parts of the Green New Disaster onto America, and so far, Republicans have been asleep at the wheel. Remember when they told us that we were nuts because we said they wanted to come after our gas stoves? And then what happened?
CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR NEWSLETTERThe green handouts resulting from last year’s “Inflation Reduction Act,” which authorized well over $600 billion in spending on so-called renewable energy and climate change initiatives, did not satisfy supporters of the climate alarmist legislation, which would see the state’s power grow further at the expense of the populace.
Sens. Edward Markey (D-Mass. ), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), and other Democratic caucus leftists wrote to Biden in July 2022, saying, “For too long, we have been waiting for a single piece of legislation, and a single Senate vote, to take bold action on our climate crisis. … As a result, we urge you to put us on an emergency footing and aggressively use your executive powers to address the climate crisis.”
Having not having gotten their way completely, leftists in Washington, D.C., are now attempting to use the wildfires in Hawaii — which appear to be mostly the product of incompetence and the fruitless pursuit of Democrats’ green agenda — to justify Biden declaring a national climate emergency.
In a statement to Politico, Markey, one of the original writers of the Green New Deal resolution, stated, “The devastation in Maui is a clear sign that the president must declare a climate emergency — now.”

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) urged for a statist response to the threat of anthropogenic climate change, saying, “This is a crisis and we need to treat it that way. That starts with President Biden declaring a national climate emergency to unlock vast federal resources and emergency powers to help our communities prepare for and recover from these deadly climate disasters.”
When questioned by the Weather Network earlier this month whether he meant to make such a pronouncement, the 80-year-old president said he had, “practically speaking.”
“We’ve already done that,” said Biden, who spent the most recent of his over 365 vacation days as president at a billionaire climate alarmist’s property in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. “We’ve conserved more land, we’ve moved into rejoining the Paris Climate Accord. We’ve got a $60 billion climate control facility.”
According to The Hill, Mark Nevitt, a law professor at Emory University, described the national climate emergency declaration as a “skeleton key” that “unlocks the door” to other powers.
The Center for Biological Diversity put out a report last year called that said if Biden declared a climate emergency, he could do a lot of bad things, like stop crude oil exports, ban oil and gas drilling in the outer continental shelf, and limit international trade and private investment in fossil fuels.
According to Tim Steward, president of the US Oil and Gas Association, “if you grant the president’s emergency powers to declare a climate emergency, it’s just like COVID.”
As a result, Biden would have “vast and unchecked authority to shut down everything from communications to infrastructure,” according to Steward.
Even some left-wing commentators are concerned that declaring an emergency would give Biden unprecedented authoritarian powers that could be abused.
Co-director of the Brennan Center’s Liberty and National Security Program Elizabeth Goitein says, “Overbroad emergency powers provide a ready mechanism for undermining democracy and entrenching political power.”
Any such executive action would face legal obstacles, according to Politico, “including going up against a conservative Supreme Court that has already ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency does not have the broad authority to rein in carbon pollution.”
Aside from the apparent illegality of such a usurpation and exercise of authority to tackle climate change, a Green New Deal by decree could hinder Biden’s re-election chances, as gas prices would surely increase once more.
Nonetheless, others believe he will make the pronouncement eventually, and soon.
