On Saturday, Republican Jeff Landry secured a resounding victory in one of three major gubernatorial elections this year, saving him the headache of facing a Democrat in a November runoff. That’s what you have to do to beat a Democrat now. Your margin of victory has to be large enough so that a runoff will not be automatically triggered because the Democrats would then steal the runoff election. I’m sorry, but we all know it’s true. Start to look for campaigns to make the runoff triggers easier for Democrats.
Landry won nearly 52 percent of the vote in Louisiana’s gubernatorial race, defeating Democrat Shawn Wilson and the rest of the field. In Louisiana, gubernatorial elections are first open to a full field of all candidates from any party in a jungle primary, and the top two vote-getters normally progress to a runoff a month later. However, if a candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, as Landry did here, they can win the jungle primary outright.

However, his extraordinarily good showing on Saturday left him well ahead of the majority vote, with the Associated Press calling the race with him comfortably above of the 50 percent mark, implying that Landry will be the next governor of Louisiana.
Next year, Landry will succeed departing Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards who is close to President Joe Biden. Could that be why most Democrats are avoiding Biden like the plague? Remember last month when Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs mysteriously stepped down for a few days? We eventually found out that she and other members of her administration, all Democrats, left town because Joe Biden was scheduled to come into town, and they didn’t want to be photographed with him. Biden is a cancer.
Landry’s convincing victory in a deep south state signals one of two such gubernatorial flips for Republicans this year. The second big gubernatorial contest in 2023 in which the GOP has a chance to wrest control of a state from the Democrats is in Kentucky, where Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron will challenge incumbent Democrat Governor Andy Beshear.
In Mississippi, Republican Governor Tate Reeves is seeking reelection and will face a Democrat rival.

Landry’s solid victory delighted Republicans around the country.
Republican Governors Association chairperson Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa pointed out that his law and order vision is popular in the state.

Law and order will be a big theme in the upcoming elections as Democrats have let their states and cities degrade into dystopian areas of the country with crime so out of control that the voters are getting fed up. Even if you are not a victim of crime personally, you still feel the impact when major retailers start leaving your city because the Democrats refuse to prosecute criminal shoplifters.
Landry’s victory is also a huge triumph for former President Donald Trump, who endorsed Landry and actively encouraged his Louisiana followers to vote for him in the governor’s race.
