Henderson is from Brandon, Florida, and does not appear to have any political affiliations, according to Newsweek, which attempted to find a motive for the unusual episode. She may be a little coo-coo, or she was trying to start a race war.
“When they realized what was going on they started to plead with Ms. Henderson to stop, but she was ignoring them,” the report continued. “It also seemed as if she started to rush and pour the gasoline out faster on and around the historical house. They saw no other option but to try to apprehend her, along with the help of other bystanders in the area, they tried to get her detained.”
While trying to stop her, Henderson allegedly was trying to spark a lighter to ignite the gas on the property and bushes. Bystanders took the lighter away from her and waited for authorities to arrive. When Henderson was detained, she was wearing black socks and no shoes.
According to WSB-TV, they reached Henderson’s father, who informed them that his daughter is a veteran who is having a mental health crisis and that her family has been looking for her for the previous two days.
If she’s a veteran, what happened to her to want to burn down MLK’s childhood home?
If so, the United States continues its failures in supporting our military veterans mental illnesses. pic.twitter.com/6IUmNmVB0K

Both men were exploring the historic site when they noticed Henderson pouring what they assumed was water on the bushes. They restrained her after she didn’t answer, and they discovered it was gasoline.
Can you just imagine if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s childhood home was burned to the ground and Henderson got away from the crime scene before anyone saw her? The media would be screaming that it was white supremacists who did it. I think every MAGA Republican and Christian fundamentalist within 100 miles would have been arrested and tortured in the basement of the nearest federal black site.
Sadly, mental illness isn’t treated better in this country. I think the medical industry has created a lot of people who suffer from mental illness. Although people with mental illnesses commit many gun crimes, gun haters frequently point the finger at the firearms that are not mentally ill.
I’m glad that, in the end, MLK’s childhood home is still standing virtually unharmed. Thank God the two travelers were there to see what was going on in time to stop the crime.
