House Oversight Committee hearings are often noisy affairs, but one on Thursday was especially so as members got personal with one another.
The committee met to debate a resolution that would punish Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for failing to cooperate with a congressional subpoena.
CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR NEWSLETTERThe subpoena ordered that he turn over President Joe Biden‘s taped deposition, which was questioned by former Special Counsel Robert Hur, who was investigating Biden’s retention of sensitive papers during his time as a senator and vice president. Finally, the special counsel chose not to prosecute Biden, citing that a jury would most likely regard him as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
During the hearing, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) raised concerns about whether any Democratic committee members employed the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who is handling former President Donald Trump‘s criminal prosecution in New York. Previous reports indicated that Merchan’s daughter works for a political consulting firm that Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY), a committee member, has used.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) questioned the significance of Greene’s questioning. Following some banter, Greene made a comment about Crockett’s “fake eyelashes,” which heightened tensions. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) (AOC) urged Chairman James Comer (R-KY) to order Greene’s words “taken down,” or removed from the record.
Eventually, AOC got involved and showed her patented faux outrage. AOC has said far worse things about other members of the House, including accusing one of trying to assault her. She even publicly accused Senator Ted Cruz of trying to have her killed.

Some people may think that MTG was acting petty, but I see it as the congresswoman from Georgia being sick and tired of the Democrats covering for people on their side of the aisle who have been called out for wrongdoing, and she’s letting her frustrations be known. If the Democrats are going to waste time, why not have a little fun with it?
