The Harris 2024 campaign is incapable of explaining why Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz falsely claimed to be “in war,” or to address any of the stolen valor accusations leveled against the new Democrat vice presidential contender during the last two days.
Since Vice President Kamala Harris announced Walz as her running mate on Tuesday, Walz has been plagued by misleading assertions made throughout his political career that distort his military service.
Walz spent 24 years in the Army National Guard but was never sent to war or engaged in combat. He retired as a master sergeant in 2005, just before his unit moved to Iraq.
However, he has claimed on numerous occasions that he is a former sergeant major, a higher rank than he eventually attained, and has erroneously claimed that he went to war.
He repeated that misleading allegation in a video released by the Harris campaign. In the video footage, Walz claims to have carried firearms “in war.”
Gov. @Tim_Walz: I spent 25 years in the Army and I hunt. I’ve been voting for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can research the impacts of gun violence. We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war,… pic.twitter.com/3IVaXi2RP2

He also claimed falsely in the film that he had served 25 years, when in fact he had served 24 years and one month.
Veterans who served with Walz have also accused him of abandoning them as the senior enlisted soldier in his unit, just as they were about to go to Iraq at the height of the conflict.
When asked about Walz’s attack on him during a press conference on Wednesday, Republican vice presidential contender Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) responded:
“When the United States of America asked me to go to Iraq, to serve my country, I did it. I did what they asked me to do, and I did it honorably. And I’m very proud of that service. When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq, you know what he did? He dropped out of the Army and allowed his unit to go without him, a fact that he’s been criticized for aggressively by a lot of the people that he served with. I think it’s shameful to prepare your unit to go to Iraq, to make a promise that you’re going to follow through, and then to drop out right before you actually have to go.”
When challenged about Vance’s comments, the White House flatly denied them, with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stating merely that Walz enlisted at the age of 17 and served for 24 years.
“This is someone who enlisted at 17 years old to serve his country. He was part of the Army National Guard for 24 years. This is someone who was a high school teacher, a high school coach, as well, who grew up in a small town in the Midwest, and, so, I think his bio speaks for itself, who he is speaks for itself, his record speaks for itself, and I’m just not going to say anything beyond that,” she said.
On Wednesday, Walz dismissed a question regarding his military record.
The campaign also attempted to cast doubt on Vance (R-OH), the Republican vice presidential contender, stating, “Governor Walz would never insult or undermine any American’s service to this country — in fact, he thanks Senator Vance for putting his life on the line for our country.”
The scandal has only escalated in recent days, with even CNN pundits admitting that Walz has been dishonest about his service background.
Kamala Harris’s team didn’t vet Tim Walz at all. Is it just me or has it seemed over the last four years that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have the most unprofessional people surrounding them? Presidents and vice presidents normally hire people who know everything there is to know about protocols and the little things of tradition that take place during ceremonies and meet-and-greets. But it seems like these two hired their friends, who have no experience on how to guide them along the way. Just a totally unprofessional look.
Spot on with this write-up, I truly think this website needs much more consideration. I’ll in all probability be again to read way more, thanks for that info.
Great post. I am facing a couple of these problems.
