Well, well, well… Vice President Kamala Harris found herself in hot water after online users mocked her campaign’s requirement for rally attendees to provide a government-issued ID, despite her opposition to voter ID laws. The event, hosted in Arizona alongside running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, was advertised in an email by her campaign, which stated that only individuals with a matching government-issued photo ID would be admitted.
The campaign’s email, extensively circulated on social media, sparked outrage for its perceived hypocrisy.

“Kamala requires an ID to attend her rally. Kamala does not want to require IDs to vote.”

The event’s venue, Desert Diamond Arena, was kept secret until the day before the rally. Attendees were allowed to enter between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., with invitations given out via email by the Arizona Democratic Party.
In a 2021 interview with Soledad O’Brien on BET, Harris expressed concern over voter ID requirements, citing potential obstacles for rural populations who lack simple access to copier services. She stressed the importance of voter identification while conceding that it may be used to suppress particular communities. It was all bullshit, but then again, can anyone name any part of Kamala’s life that wasn’t?
During her 2020 vice presidential campaign, Harris published an op-ed in The Washington Post commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. She denounced Republican voting suppression techniques, accusing them of targeting communities of color with voter ID laws, racial gerrymandering, and other means.
