Well, well, well… looks like Vice President Kamala Harris is in the hot seat again. This time, it’s thanks to a five-year-old video that’s decided to make a grand reappearance on social media, and it’s not doing her any favors in her pursuit of the White House.
In the clip, which dates back to 2019, Harris proudly declares, “Climate change is the single greatest threat facing our world today. That’s why I am committed to passing a Green New Deal, creating clean jobs, and finally putting an end to fracking once and for all.” Yep, you read that right—an end to fracking. She made this bold statement during an appearance on the “Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon. You know, because if you’re going to end jobs in Pennsylvania, you might as well do it in front of a guy who used to be a comedian.

She even repeated the sentiment during a CNN town hall earlier that same month, saying there’s “no question” she was “in favor of banning fracking.” Bold move for someone looking to win over the Rust Belt, right?
Fox News aired the clip, and people are talking about it.

Of course, fast forward to today, and this resurfaced clip is getting some serious traction—thanks in large part to conservative commentators who aren’t letting it slide. And let’s not forget her support for the infamous Green New Deal, which was practically written by progressive darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC). Because what’s more relatable to the average American than an energy policy championed by a Bronx socialist?

In an interview with CNN last month, she backpedaled, saying, “What I have seen is that we can grow, and we can increase a clean energy economy without banning fracking.” Well, isn’t that convenient? It turns out banning fracking isn’t such a great idea when you need Pennsylvania’s votes. Shocker.
Speaking of Pennsylvania, the state plays a pretty significant role here since fracking isn’t just a hot topic—it’s a job creator. A fracking ban would be an economic gut punch to this vital swing state, where natural gas extraction enjoys broad support. You know, the kind of support that might sway an election.
As it stands, Harris holds a razor-thin lead in Pennsylvania—less than one point, to be exact, according to RealClearPolitics. She’s sitting at 48.3% support compared to Trump’s 47.6%. Not exactly a landslide, is it? And you better believe Trump has pounced on her flip-flopping like a cat on a laser pointer. During the recent debate, Trump warned, “fracking in Pennsylvania will end on day one” if she takes office.
So, who’s buying Harris’ sudden change of heart on fracking? Not many, if her polling numbers are any indication. It looks like her past is catching up to her, and the voters of Pennsylvania are paying attention.
She was anti-fracking and anti-fossil fuel energy in 2019, and that is still her stance regardless of what she says now.
