Here’s what’s going on behind the scenes, and it’s uglier than you think.
Steve Bannon is calling out Rupert Murdoch, and he’s not holding back. According to the UK Daily Mail, Bannon believes the media titan has his fingerprints all over the Wall Street Journal’s latest hit piece on President Trump. You know, the one about that supposed birthday card to Jeffrey Epstein.
Bannon thinks the Murdochs are waging war on Trump, plain and simple. He spelled it out on his “War Room” podcast Friday, and let me tell you, he didn’t mince words.
“Last night, we saw it in all its ugliness,” the former White House adviser said. “The Murdochs hate Trump.”
Trump isn’t just sitting there taking it. He’s fighting back with a massive $10 billion lawsuit against Murdoch, the Wall Street Journal, and the reporters who ran the story. Bannon sees this as Trump’s golden opportunity to take on the media mogul who controls the paper through News Corp.
What sparked all this? On Thursday, the Journal published what they claim is a birthday card Trump sent to Epstein for his 50th birthday. The message was pretty strange, I’ll give you that.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL“Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret,” the typed, not hand-written message said before Trump’s purported handwritten signature.
But here’s the thing: Trump says he never wrote it. In fact, he’s so adamant about it that he filed a $10 billion lawsuit to prove the whole thing is fake.
Bannon thinks this is all part of a coordinated takedown attempt. Years of back and forth between Trump and the Murdoch empire, and now they’re going for what Bannon calls the kill shot.
“The Murdochs want to take down Trump,” Bannon said. “And this is why on this Epstein and everything, including the rest of the going at the deep state, we have to be on offense all the time.”
Think about Murdoch’s media empire for a second. He owns The New York Post, Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, and various newspapers and media outlets in the US, UK, and Australia. That’s a significant amount of influence, and according to Bannon, Murdoch is utilizing all of it against Trump.
“They used the New York Post as more of a populist entity,” Bannon continued. “And of course, Fox News is for RINOs.”
“But the Wall Street Journal is the neoliberal neocon sharp end of the stick that they come after Trump,” he added. “And last night they tried to actually destroy him with what looks like a phony and fake letter.”
This is where Bannon’s theory gets really interesting. He thinks the Murdochs decided to go nuclear because Trump had the audacity to stand up to them. Most politicians probably would have backed down, but Trump? He doubled down with that lawsuit.
Bannon believes the Murdochs put out the “kill shot on President Trump because he had the stones to stand up to” them.
And here’s Bannon’s advice for how Trump should handle this whole mess.
“In fact, we made the recommendations that are the best for President Trump in this movement, which is President Trump is best when it’s attack, attack, attack,” Bannon said. “He can’t wait to get Rupert Murdoch on the stand.”
WATCH:
So there it is. Bannon says this fight is about raw power, control, and whether the media elite can take down a sitting president using what he calls a manufactured story. The real question now is whether Trump’s legal strategy can hold the line, or if we’re just watching another act in the never-ending political circus.
