Disney Mocked Over Little Mermaid Live-Action Remake Full of Wokeness

Disney is under fire for bringing wokeness in its live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, which is expected to gross $100 million despite mixed reviews on this Memorial Day weekend.

On Metacritic, critics and audiences gave the relaunch of the 1989 animated classic “average” and “unfavorable” ratings. Some criticize the filmmakers’ efforts to bring the film up to date with modern societal norms. That’s because wokeness is not modern societal times. Wokeness, in the form of drag queens and transgender ideology, would never form organically on any of the world’s 7 continents. Wokeness was pushed by Marxist world leaders and the misinformation fake news media.

Critics have focused on storyline and lyric changes that play with sex, ethnicity, and cultural values in order to make the 125-minute adaptation conform to Disney’s progressive beliefs.

In the original, Scuttle, a male seagull, has evolved into a female gannet. Halle Bailey steals the show as Ariel, but others dispute the decision to cast a mixed-race family of mermaids and mermen.

King Triton, played by Javier Bardem in the new version, has become an environmentalist, complaining that people are polluting the waters and destroying his undersea kingdom of Atlantica.

Melissa McCarthy, who plays the wicked sea witch Ursula in the adaptation, has suggested that drag queens have impacted her performance.

McCarthy’s inspiration may be similar to the original Ursula, who was based on the famed drag performer Divine, who performed in films from the 1960s to the 1980s.

McCarthy told Deadline, “I just hope to do every incredible drag queen proud.” Good luck with that.

Changes to the original lyrics are also causing controversy.

The song “Kiss the Girl,” performed by Sebastian the crab, in which Prince Eric kisses Ariel, has been changed so that the monarch obtains affirmative agreement before puckering up his lips.

“Possible she want you too/There is one way to ask her/It don’t take a word, not a single word/Go on and kiss the girl.” the crab chanted in the 1989 rendition.

The 2023 version, on the other hand, has been revised to reflect the #MeToo movement.

“Possible she want you, too/Use your words, boy, and ask her,” the new version says.

Fans are divided over the revisions; lefties think it’s a sensible update to reflect changing attitudes, while sane people think it’s unneeded.

According to some conservative viewers, the end product is cringeworthy and unwatchable. Most woke productions are because they are alien to most normal people.

Nonetheless, Hollywood in Toto’s conservative critic Christian Toto, said that it was not the full-fledged “woke-a-thon.”

“The run-up to the film’s release suggested another Disney woke-a-thon, but the film doesn’t live down to that description,” Toto told The Washington Times.

“Halle Bailey’s colorblind casting drew its fair share of critics, but she boasts a lovely voice and pleasant screen presence, shushing the doubters.”

Toto declared that the recreation was a more delicate version of Disney’s historical update.

According to Toto, the script “never stops to lecture us about the patriarchy or other modern ills,” and its environmentalism is “gently woven into the story’s fabric.”

The film aired on Friday, as tensions between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis gained momentum.

Disney filed court papers on Thursday opposing DeSantis’ request in the company’s First Amendment lawsuit against the anti-woke governor.

The war began last year when the corporation publicly opposed laws regulating child sex grooming and sexual instruction in early grades, which detractors dubbed Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law even though it never says “Don’t say gay” in the entire bill. The word “gay” never appears either.

Conservatives have repeatedly criticized the entertainment behemoth, accusing it and Hollywood in general of promoting progressive nonsense to American viewers. You would think after Disney took a hit when they came out against the Florida law that they would have learned, but it looks like the woke supremacy runs the show down there now.

It’s bad enough that a children’s entertainment media company would introduce drag queens and other woke ideologies into their work product, but they’re not even coming up with original content to do so. Instead, they are remaking old classics using the woke supremacy format. It’s a slap in the face to people who grew up loving Disney.
