On Thursday, the White House asked Congress for $24 billion in additional financing to bolster Ukraine’s defense against Russia, according to The New York Times.
According to the New York Times, Biden’s request calls into question what has been a largely bipartisan effort to give Ukraine US arms and economic aid, as top House Republicans have sworn not to approve any further emergency supplementals for Ukraine. The new request includes $13 billion in security assistance, $8.5 billion in economic and humanitarian programs for Ukraine and other affected countries, and $2.3 billion to incentivize other nations to support Ukraine through a World Bank fund.
“The president has reaffirmed that we will stand with Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty for as long as it takes, a strategy that has successfully united our allies and partners and equipped Ukraine to defend itself against Russian aggression,” White House Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young wrote in a letter to California House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, according to the New York Times.
The Times said that McCarthy declared in June that a supplemental appropriation was “not going anywhere” and that any additional Ukraine funds would have to go via the regular budgeting process. That month, 70 House Republicans voted to permanently halt all financing for Ukraine.
According to the outlet, the supplemental appropriation includes $12 billion for disaster relief, $4 billion for the administration’s southern border efforts, and $60 million for firefighter pay until Congress works out funding for the upcoming fiscal year and averts a government shutdown on September 30.
The measure has “strong bipartisan support” in the Senate, according to Democratic Majority Leader Chuck [you] Schumer of New York.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL“The latest request from the Biden administration shows America’s continued commitment to helping Americans here at home and our friends abroad; and should send a clear signal to Vladimir Putin, the Chinese government, and others of America’s resolve when it comes to defending democracy around the world,” Schumer said in a statement. “We hope to join with our Republican colleagues this fall to avert an unnecessary government shutdown and fund this critical emergency supplemental request.”
The problem is Ukraine is not a democracy. President Zelensky imprisoned the leader of the opposition party, the way Joe Biden is trying to do with Donald Trump. Zelensky banned a major religion and threatened to arrest priests.
According to Politico, administration officials said the package will meet Ukraine’s demands from the US until the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024, which begins in October. Since when does Ukraine get to make demands of the United States? When the US president has something to hide like all the criminal activities, he and the Biden Crime Family did there.
