Democrats and their misinformation fake news media pals scrambled on Thursday to twist Jonathan Turley‘s expert testimony about the House impeachment investigation of President Joe Biden. In short, they lied.
Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, is regarded as one of the most renowned constitutional thinkers of his time. Congress frequently calls on his constitutional knowledge, including during the impeachment hearings for Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, as well as now during an impeachment inquiry for the Big Guy, Joe Biden.
Democrats and the media pounced on one sentence of Turley’s testimony at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the Biden impeachment inquiry on Thursday to make it appear as though he agrees with their position that the inquiry is unjustified and unwarranted. The Democrats have said since the announcement was made that an impeachment inquiry was green-lighted that there was no evidence against Joe Biden and that it was all over revenge for what they did to Trump.
This is the line the Democrats used to spread an intentional falsehood:
“I do not believe that the evidence currently meets the standard of a high crime and misdemeanor needed for an article of impeachment,” Turley stated.
The 7-second film was uploaded on the House Judiciary Democrats’ official social media account. The comment was publicized by The Daily Beast and congressional reporter Jamie Dupree, as well as the Biden campaign, The New Republic, and many others.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELThe issue, of course, is that the quote they used is taken completely out of context.
Turley did say the words. However, here is the whole quote from his pre-written testimony:
“It is important to emphasize what this hearing is not. It is not a hearing on articles of impeachment. The House has launched an impeachment inquiry, and I am appearing to discuss the history and purpose of such inquiries. I have previously stated that, while I believe that an impeachment inquiry is warranted, I do not believe that the evidence currently meets the standard of a high crime and misdemeanor needed for an article of impeachment. The purpose of my testimony today is to discuss how past inquiries pursued evidence of potentially impeachable conduct.”
Here is Turley’s opening statement:
To recap, Turley feels that there is now in time insufficient evidence to impeach Biden. That’s because it’s just an inquiry. But he also feels there is enough evidence to initiate an impeachment inquiry, which will look into whether there is enough evidence to meet the Constitution’s impeachment standards.
Here is what the Democrats didn’t promote in their false narrative about the words Turley spoke during his testimony because they intentionally left them out:
“[T]he House has passed the threshold for an inquiry into whether President Joe Biden was directly involved or benefited from the corrupt practices of his son, Hunter, and others.”
Meanwhile, during the hearing, the House Democrats tried to trash Turley’s reputation. Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) questioned the George Washington University law professor over a 2006 Guardian op-ed in which he stated that polygamy should not be punished. He was representing the sister wives in a case of polygamy, where he was challenging the law on the basis of individual rights.
WATCH:
Turley’s three children were in the room and they had to listen to the Democrat smear campaign against their father. So he gave a response to the vicious attack on his character.
He also got into how Democrats have a pattern of attacking witnesses, whistleblowers, and others. This is an amazing moment.
WATCH:
Jonathan Turley is a bit of a unicorn if you will. He is a self-described liberal and yet he reveres the US Constitution more than his liberalism. He has said he did not like Trump, and that means he probably voted for Hillary and Biden. But his character has been impeccable during his career. Alan Dershowitz is the only other liberal Democrat who is the same way, and the Democrats have repeatedly trashed him as well for revering the US Constitution more than them.
What the Democrats did to Turley is a big thing. He has the reputation of a legal scholar whose advice has been sought by the federal government many times. I believe it was a mistake for them to treat him this way, and it will wind up haunting them for years.
