House minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is facing hysterical calls from Democrats to resign after he supposedly joked about hitting Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) with a giant gavel someone gave him as a gift at a dinner in Nashville Saturday night.
McCarthy was given a large gavel with the words “Fire Pelosi” printed on it by a delegation of Tennessee Republicans at a dinner that had Senator’s Marsha Blackburn, Bill Hagerty, and Governor Bill Lee speaking according to reports.
After speaking favorably about House Republicans taking back the majority in 2022 and him becoming Speaker, he asked Republican donors there at the dinner to come join him in Washington so that they could watch Pelosi hand him the gavel, the Washington Post’s Michael Scherer tweeted out.
It’s being reported McCarthy jokingly said, “It will be hard not to hit her with it but I will bang it down.” The future Speaker was referring to the honor of a new Speaker using that particular gavel as Speaker and not that he will bang it down on Pelosi. You have to be precise with Democrats because they’re not that bright.

Naturally, Democrats ran with the usual overly exaggerated hysteria.

Some Democrats who have no sense of humor started calling for McCarthy to resign. My response would be sure, just as soon as Maxine Waters resigns over the numerous times she encouraged her supporters to attack Trump administration officials. Democrats talk like that all the time, but the difference is McCarthy was making a joke.
Representative Eric Swalwell called the Republican a “would-be assailant” of the speaker.
The Chinese spy compromised congressman tweeted.

Representative Ted Lieu (D-CA), one of the biggest liars in the House, chimed in with his own staged outrage message.
“Dear @GOPLeader McCarthy: Don’t you think America has had enough political violence? You should never be encouraging or threatening or joking about causing violence to anyone, including the Speaker of the House. You need to apologize for your statement, or resign.”

Democratic Coalition co-founder Scott Dworkin also shows hypocrisy for going after McCarthy but never said a word to Maxine Waters.

Now, January 6 was an assassination attempt. The Democrats are just plain nuts.
No one going after the minority leader will remember that last week the Speaker of the House of Representatives called the minority leader of the House of Representatives a “moron” for coming out against the ridiculous mask mandate Pelosi inflicted on the House saying that her rule was unscientific.
McCarthy called Pelosi out for her “hypocrisy” for not wearing a mask in the House after she forced the new mask mandate for all members during the surge in cases over the highly contagious Delta variant. For one thing, Pelosi took her mask off for a photo taken in the House.
“Twice today I saw the speaker in a crowded room without a mask, less than 24 hours after imposing the mask mandate,” McCarthy said in a House floor speech.
Pelosi’s new mask mandate doesn’t adhere to local DC masking orders or the Senate on the other side of the Capitol building. She quickly revived the House mask rule after Tuesday when the CDC said that areas with high rates of COVID-19 transmission should consider requiring all people to wear masks, including vaccinated people. DC is not a hotbed of COVID transmissions right now but the Speaker will never let a good crisis go to waste.
