That specific element of the program, which has been in place for years, was paused last year because of internal concerns. DHS’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis, which runs the program, uses it to gather information about threats to the U.S., including transnational drug trafficking and organized crime. But the fact that this low-profile office is collecting intelligence by questioning people in the U.S. is virtually unknown.

The inner workings of the program — called the “Overt Human Intelligence Collection Program” — are described in the large tranche of internal documents POLITICO reviewed from the Office of Intelligence and Analysis. Those documents and additional interviews revealed widespread internal concerns about legally questionable tactics and political pressure. The documents also show that people working there fear punishment if they speak out about mismanagement and abuses.
The KGB agents at DHS will say that there is nothing wrong with the program because after all, it’s called the Overt Human Intelligence Collection Program and that American citizens are willing to speak. The entire concept behind Miranda vs Arizona was that the average citizen doesn’t understand that what they say to law enforcement could be used against them and harm them even if they did nothing wrong. It warns the citizen that what they say may be used against them and that they have the right to an attorney. This program makes a mockery of that warning and our civil liberties.
According to the report, an unknown employee in the document cache allegedly stated that the Overt Human Intelligence Collection Program’s office “is shady” and “runs like a corrupt government.” A second document supposedly said that workers also claimed the program triggered so many red lights that they wanted the program to pay for legal liability insurance. That’s bad!
Former DHS undersecretary for intelligence Carrie Bachner told Politico that if the secret intelligence program exists to question citizens, it is immoral.
“I don’t know any counsel in their right mind that would sign off on that, and any member of Congress that would say, ‘That’s OK,’” Bachner added. “If these people are out there interviewing folks that still have constitutional privileges, without their lawyer present, that’s immoral.”
Under the Biden regime, it’s getting more and more like the Soviet Union.
“What do they do with that information they collect, and is it legal?” Bachner inquired. “Where do they store that information?”
According to Politico, a key theme in the internal communications was that many program staffers were concerned about breaking the law, which led to disagreements about how US law relates to the program’s dealings with Americans.
Mark my words, in the end, the low-level staffers will be fired and hit with charges while the heads of the agency will walk away smelling like roses. That’s how our federal government is being run under Joe Biden.
