Jacob Chansley, the QAnon Shaman, Was Sentenced To More Than 3 Years In Prison For His Role In the January 6 Capitol Riot

On Wednesday, Jacob Chansley, a 2020 Stop the Steal protester in the January 6 protest at the US Capitol, otherwise known as the “QAnon Shaman” or Chewbacca, was sentenced to 41 months in prison without any time served reduction considering the months he sat in the DC Gitmo while awaiting his trial.

Chansley was arrested on January 9, three days after the 2 and a half hour riot on January 6, and he sat in a prison cell ever since.

The 34-year-old Arizona man was indicted on 6 charges which included two felonies. The Shaman cut a deal with the government where he pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of an official proceeding.

“What you did here was horrific, as you now concede,” U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth said. “It is the type of conduct that is so serious that I cannot justify downward departure.”

Like 74 million other Americans, Chansley thought the Democrats stole the 2020 election from President Donald Trump and he wanted his voice to be heard. He entered the building after police opened the doors for the people to walk in. He sat down and took selfies.

A female Air Force veteran who was not a threat to anyone was shot and killed by a Capitol police officer and there was no trial for him, yet Chansley gets almost 3 and a half years in prison on top of 10 months awaiting trial.

His sentencing came almost a week after federal prosecutors made a recommendation that Chansley serve 51 months for his role in the breach of the Capitol on January 6 of this year while Congress was certifying the electoral vote for the Thief-in-Chief Joe Biden.

On Wednesday, Assistant US Attorney Kimberly Paschall described Chansley as a primary instigator of the riot even though he didn’t harm anyone and didn’t break anything. In fact, he was pretty friendly with Capitol police, as was seen in video footage.

Paschall argued that his actions were not “peaceful” because inside the Capitol he yelled “Time’s up, m*therf***er!” Can you imagine if that was all the rioters in Kenosha did in August 2020? And the only one arrested was a 17-year-old kid for defending himself against violent animals who were trying to kill him.

The AUA also mentioned a written note that Chansley left on then-Vice President Mike Pence’s desk, which read, “Justice is coming.”

“If the defendant had been peaceful on that day, your honor, we would not be here,” Paschall said. Who is she kidding? He committed no violent acts the entire time he was there.

Attorney Al Watkins, who represented Chansley, asked for leniency for his client, pointing out that prison psychologists determined he suffers from a number of mental illnesses, including but not limited to anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, and schizophrenia.

“I was in solitary confinement because of me, because of my decision. I broke the law. … I should do what Gandhi would do and take responsibility,” Chansley said during testimony on Wednesday.

“There’s no ifs, and, or buts about it. That’s what men of honor do,” he said. Chansley vowed he would never to do anything to be jailed again.

Chanlsey became the poster boy for the January 6 riot because he was dressed up in a ridiculous outfit complete with a fur hat with horns, his face painted red, white, and blue while he carried a 6 foot pole with a spearhead into the federal building.

The pole was a weapon, but after watching the video, it seemed like it was part of the costume he was wearing and wasn’t to be used to harm anyone.

Six hundred ninety-five people have been arrested and charged with crimes that tied them to the riot at the Capitol as of November 17. That data comes from the Justice Department.

No one believes what happened on January 6 at the US Capitol was a good thing. But there are a lot of unanswered questions about that day and there is no question that Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats in DC have been exploiting the riot on January 6 ever since that fateful day for political power.

Now Chansley has to do 3 and a half years of prison time for not harming anyone or breaking anything.
