Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is unsure whether House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) can legitimately dismiss former President Donald Trump‘s two impeachments, claiming McCarthy is “playing politics.”
First off, the House can undo anything it has done. In the case of an impeachment, they don’t have to confer with the US Senate. The Constitution gives the House sole authority over impeachments.
Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats are against the Republicans in the House expunging Trump’s two impeachments because they don’t want to replay those two episodes in history for fear of being exposed and the world finding out how dirty, filthy, and disgusting the Democrats were while impeaching the 45th president.
During the impeachments, the Democrats broke laws. They broke the rules. They lied. They withheld exculpatory evidence. During opening statements of an impeachment hearing, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff intentionally lied about the transcript of the phone call between President Trump and Ukraine’s President Zelensky. He made it sound like Trump was a mafia boss talking to Zelensky. He did this at the beginning of the hearing because he knew that most of the constituents for the Democrats wouldn’t watch the hearings beyond that because there’s too stupid and too impatient to get through it. Schiff was trying to get the country to be angry at Trump and he did it based on lies. The Democrats also held secretive hearings where Republicans were not allowed to be present. Schiff was recently censured by the House over his behavior.
Pelosi’s remarks to Dana Bash on CNN’s State of the Union come after McCarthy denied making a “deal” with Trump that the House would vote to drop the impeachments before the August recess. McCarthy, who was appointed speaker in part because of Trump’s support, did say he supported expungements for impeachments that occurred for “purely political reasons.”
Pelosi, on the other hand, stated on Sunday that she was working on a political angle that might endanger weak House Republicans in the 2024 election.

It is Pelosi who is playing politics. She was the most disgraceful House Speaker in history. Some of the vile things that came out of her mouth during the Trump years were far worse than anything the former president said.
Pelosi stated that she was “very careful” about bringing impeachment charges forward, but that the House eventually had “no choice.” She’s a liar. The Democrats began their attempt to remove Trump from office 19 minutes after he was inaugurated, and they never ceased until the day he left on January 20, 2021. Pelosi said that removing the impeachments is “not responsible” and demonstrates Trump’s power. Trump has no power. He’s not in office. Removing the impeachments is the only responsible thing to do. You have to undo evil. You have to fix wrongdoing.
“As I’ve said before, Donald Trump is the puppeteer, and what does he do all of the time? Shine a light on the strings. These people look pathetic,” Pelosi stated.
I would look into having Pelosi censured for going on a news show and degrading the Speaker of the House this way. Surely there must be rules in place that prohibit House members from doing that.
Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) filed legislation last month to remove Trump’s impeachments from December 18, 2019, and January 13, 2021. When the resolution was introduced, McCarthy indicated he would “look at” it.
Members have expressed alarm about a possible vote, claiming that it could expose schisms among House Republicans.
