Did you know that in 2024, illegal aliens, tourists, and foreign visa workers brought nearly 400,000 new babies into the world on American soil? That’s like popping out a whole New Orleans – babies, jazz, gumbo, and all.
According to the Center for Immigration Studies, these so-called “anchor babies” – a term used to describe U.S.-born kids of folks with zero legal ties to the country – are arriving across all 50 states like it’s a nationwide baby shower. Four. Hundred. Thousand. Every. Year.
Here’s the thing: These little bundles of joy automatically get U.S. citizenship. Yep, no questions asked, no green card for Mom or Dad. Fast forward 18 years, and these kids, now legal adults, can sponsor their parents and cousins for green cards. It’s like a family reunion with legal paperwork.
We first reported on Trump talking about ending birthright citizenship last month:
In 2024 alone, 300,000 of these “anchor babies” were born to illegal alien parents. Another 72,000 were delivered courtesy of foreign tourists, visa workers, and students. Visitors come for the sightseeing and go home with a tiny American passport-holder in tow. Talk about a souvenir.
But wait, there’s a plot twist. President-Elect Donald Trump has vowed to put an end to this birthright citizenship fiesta. According to recent polling, a good chunk of Americans are on board. Apparently, 48% of whites and 42% of Hispanics think it’s time to close the baby loophole.

In other words, the Democrats created a welfare class of American citizens to make them dependent on the Democratic Party every Election Day. But then they went one evil step further and made it so that illegal aliens could get all the goodies that you and I pay for too. My grandfather used to say, “If you ever want to create a line, start giving out something for free.”
We first reported on Trump claiming he was going to end birthright citizenship back in mid-December:
Let’s rewind to 1866. The Civil War had just ended, slavery was abolished, and a group called the Radical Republicans passed a civil rights law to protect African Americans. The law specifically stated that:
“all persons born in the United States and not subject to any foreign power, excluding Indians not taxed, are hereby declared to be citizens of the United States….”
In other words, the law protected former slaves—not foreigners. To ensure the law was on solid ground, the Radical Republicans pushed for the 14th Amendment, passed in 1868, which says:
“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
That “birthright citizenship” clause sounds pretty straightforward, right? But the devil’s in the details—or rather, in the words “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.”
Fast forward to today, and we’ve somehow gotten to the point where kids born to illegal immigrants, temporary visitors, and even tourists are granted citizenship. That citizenship comes with perks like welfare benefits, the right to vote, and even the ability to sponsor relatives for residency. Oh, and according to Pew Research in 2009, a whopping 73% of children of unauthorized immigrants were U.S. citizens.
Trump isn’t pulling punches either. “On day one of my new term in office, I will sign an executive order making clear to federal agencies that under the correct interpretation of the law going forward the future children of illegal aliens will not receive automatic U.S. citizenship,” he declared in 2023.
And legally speaking? The U.S. Supreme Court has never outright said that U.S.-born kids of illegal aliens are entitled to citizenship. Some legal experts even argue that the 14th Amendment doesn’t mean what we think it means. Apparently, when the amendment was ratified, the whole “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” thing didn’t include people who weren’t citizens or legal residents. Who knew?
Meanwhile, countries like Australia, France, Ireland, and New Zealand are laughing at us from across the pond. In most developed nations, you don’t get a free citizenship ticket just for being born there. The U.S. and Canada? We’re the exceptions. It’s like we handed out golden tickets and forgot to set any rules.
So there you have it. While some nations require at least one citizen parent to secure citizenship, America’s policy has been: “Welcome to the world! Here’s your birth certificate, baby!” For now, anyway.
