Former President Donald Trump slammed the “rigged” trial at a press conference Friday at Trump Tower in Manhattan, following a shocking guilty verdict Thursday in which a NYC jury convicted him of 34 criminal charges for falsifying business records in an attempt to influence the 2016 presidential election.
Trump, 77, has promised to appeal, saying he is “honored” by the judicial battle and that “we’re fighting for our Constitution.”
The allegations stem from a $130,000 “hush money” payment that Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal attorney, made to porn star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence regarding an alleged one-night relationship with Trump.
Synopsis of the trial:
- The judge allowed state misdemeanor charges where the statute of limitations ran out years ago to be magically converted into federal felony counts. That alone will cause a reversal. A state prosecutor cannot file federal charges.
- Those federal charges impacted a federal election and were used to interfere in a federal election.
- The judge allowed the jury to convict on any one of 3 crimes without unanimity! I’ve never heard of that before.
- The judge allowed the jury to convict Trump of not committing a crime by telling the jury they did not have to prove the underlying crime was committed (because there was no underlying crime), but allowed the jury to convict Trump of intending to conceal an act that was not a crime!
- The judge refused to recuse himself. His daughter is making millions off the trial with her company, Authentic Campaigns, and a New York law says he had to recuse himself because of it.
- The Biden administration sent former acting Associate Attorney General Matthew Colangelo to work with the Bragg prosecution team to make sure they didn’t screw things up.
- The judge isn’t even a real judge in that circuit. He was hand-picked by the Biden administration for the trial and for other Trump trials, like Steve Bannon, because they knew he would do the biased things he did.
- Merchan refused to move the venue when Helen Keller would have seen the bias.
- The judge ruled repeatedly for the prosecution and against the defense on material issues.
- The judge denied federal election officials the right to testify for Trump. The official was going to testify that Trump violated no federal election laws.
