It’s always boggled my mind about how RINOs turned away from Trump. Even after he had a very successful presidency, despite the RINO establishment types joining forces with the radical left, they still condemn him to this day. I think it speaks more to how much they want to feel loved by the media and by leftists and Democrats who hate them. I think rhino establishment types are cowards. They are the first ones who will back down at an accusation against them that is not true all the while claiming to be above the fray and not participate in the same such manner as they watch the radical Progressives destroy the country.
It’s pretty wild when you look at how some of the old-school conservative voices—Charles Krauthammer, Bill Kristol, David Frum, Joe Scarborough, Nicole Wallace, Jennifer Rubin, and others—have gone after Trump with more gusto than any liberal commentator ever could. They’ve basically tossed aside their lifelong conservative badges just because, well, Trump. And let’s be honest, while the messenger’s changed, the message is still pretty familiar. So, what’s going on? Why are they so furious?
Here’s a thought: Trump took the traditional image of the Republican Party—the suit-and-tie crowd all about deregulation, capital gains tax cuts, and dreaming up ways to privatize Social Security—and completely flipped it. Instead of catering to the country club elite, he’s turned the party toward a coalition of working-class, patriotic, middle-class Americans. In Trump’s vision, it’s not about your race; it’s about your paycheck, your job, and your daily grind. Suddenly, being a Republican isn’t just for hedge fund managers—it’s for truck drivers and construction workers too.
Now, these “Never Trump” conservative pundits? They don’t get it. When they call Trump “racist” or “xenophobic,” they seem to miss the part where he’s actually resonating with Black, Hispanic, and white working-class voters. Trump’s got Black truck drivers, Mexican-American carpenters, and white coal miners nodding along because, in his view, they’ve got more in common with each other than they do with some elite pundit on TV or a professor lecturing from a cushy academic tower. The idea of a national, middle-class movement terrifies the establishment folks because it shakes up their nice, neat political boxes.
Then there’s Trump’s refusal to hack away at Social Security or other programs the conservative old guard wants to shrink. Traditional conservatives would rather cut entitlements than even think about raising taxes. But Trump? He’s more of a “Let’s cut the abuse, not the benefits” kind of guy.
Critics practically fainted when he suggested a plan to build a border wall and limit illegal immigration. They swore it would turn Hispanic voters away from the GOP for generations. Even the Chamber of Commerce, protector of corporate interests, freaked out, warning we’d be in a “worker shortage crisis.” Trump, however, shrugged and basically said, “These folks get it—crime, cartels, all that—they don’t want to live in fear any more than anyone else.”

These groups are dealing with many of the same issues as working-class white folks: jobs, crime, and economic security. By tapping into those shared concerns, Trump bridged gaps others thought were insurmountable.
Now, with Trump appealing directly to the working class across racial and cultural lines, the Washington experts and pundits are left scratching their heads. Trump’s version of conservatism isn’t about sticking to the classic party platform; it’s about building a unified middle class. And that, for a lot of political elites, is scarier than anything else—they’re watching the party they used to control slip away and turn into something new, something populist, and something that just doesn’t need their approval anymore. And that’s why they hate Trump so much. He came out of nowhere and never kiss the RINO brass ring or anyone’s ass. And for that, they will never forgive him.
