Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) pointed out the shameless hypocrisy of Democrats, specifically Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), in a passionate speech consisting entirely of prior statements that Schumer made defending the Senate’s filibuster rule.
The thing that irks me the most is that today’s crop of Democrats act like they are virtuous and that the things they are pushing for are to make American lives better, to support and defend our Constitution, and mostly, to fight for voting rights. NONE of that is true. In fact, the exact opposite is true.
Cotton spoke before Joe Biden’s meeting with Democrats to discuss a strategy to change the rules of the Senate in order to rig the process in their favor so that they can shove anything from Biden’s racist, fascist, globalist agenda through without opposition getting in the way.
From the Senate floor on Wednesday, the senator from Arkansas set out to remind everyone how Schumer sincerely opposed in the past what he is trying to do right now.
“Right now we are on the precipice of a constitutional crisis. We are about to step into the abyss,” Cotton said, quoting from a speech Schumer gave in 2005 where he came out against the so-called “nuclear option” of eliminating the filibuster to advance legislation in the Senate.

A little perspective goes a long way. President George W Bush first proposed what later became known as the nuclear option back in 2005. That was because for the first time in the history of the US Senate, the minority party, the Democrats in this case, began filibustering judicial nominees. It had never been done before because it was always understood that elections have consequences and one of those consequences is presidents get to make judicial nominations to federal courts, including the US Supreme Court. It was an atrocious abuse of a longstanding senate tradition by the Democrat members of the Senate. In the end, a group of 14 senators from both parties, deemed the Gang of 14, agreed to oppose the nuclear option for judicial nominees except in extraordinary circumstances. We later learned that “extraordinary circumstances” for Democrats meant if a Republican president nominates someone for the federal bench who really believes in upholding and defending the US Constitution.
The nuclear option was first actually invoked in 2013 by Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Read (D-NV). At the time, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) warned that if the Democrats invoke the nuclear option, someday it will come back to haunt them when they lose power in the Senate. And he was exactly right and the Democrats immediately shifted their arguments in favor to oppose the nuclear option once they lost the Senate majority.
The Democrats have a history of wanting to rig systems and processes for themselves while they passionately argue against the very things they defended just a minute ago. In my neighborhood, they call that being a scumbag.
Schumer, one of the most despicable majority leaders in history, for months now has tried to convince moderate Democrats to vote to get rid of the filibuster so that the party can ram through a bill that will force states to get rid of their election laws and have them overhauled by DC Democrats. Gosh, golly, gee, what could go wrong there?
On January 3, Schumer sent out a letter to his Democrat senate members announcing that the Senate would vote on a rules change to eliminate the filibuster. That was because Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is one of the very few senators left with honor for the process and he has said he opposes voting to end the filibuster. Recently, the Democrats sent in some big guns to threaten persuade Manchin to vote to end the filibuster: Bill Clinton, Barack Hussein Benito Milhous Obama, and Oprah Winfrey who are three Americans you now know hate the idea of democracy. The Democrats are always going on about them wanting to protect our democracy when we actually live in a Constitutional republic. Be that as it may, these three, along with most of the other senate democrats, do not really believe in a Constitutional republic. When they say the word democracy, they really mean it. A democracy is just another word for mob rule.
Here is how I explain a democracy. There are three people. Two of them just voted that they get to keep everything the third guy owns. That is a democracy. It is majority wins every time with no safety or protections for the minority. That is what the Democrats want to do to the US Senate.
Republicans immediately pointed out Schumer’s blatant hypocrisy that, oddly enough, no one in the mainstream news media picked up on unless they were running the angle of a “Republicans Pounce” story.
Cotton reminded everyone that Schumer has a long history of making statements criticizing Republicans for considering the nuclear option, even after Harry Reid began using it when he was majority leader.
“Are senators merely doing their jobs as legislators, responding to a generalized public calling for the abolition of the filibuster? Clearly not,” Cotton said, reading directly from Schumer’s speech.
“It is not the American people at large who are demanding detonation of the nuclear option,” he said. “The nuclear option is being pushed largely by the radioactive rhetoric of a small band of radicals who hold in their hands the political fortunes of the president.”
Cotton read aloud a speech that Schumer gave back in 2003, where he zealously defended the filibuster as “embodied in the spirit and rule of the Constitution.”
I guess Schumer no longer feels he has to pretend he gives a rat’s rear end about the “spirit and rule of the Constitution.”
“The Senate is not a majoritarian body,” Cotton quoted from Schumer, pounding the podium to mimic the majority leader’s old speech patterns while reading through what can be described as a catalogue of increasingly outrageous predictions Schumer spoke of when denouncing the nuclear option.
Schumer is known to flip-flop on an issue for partisan political expediency. As a Jewish member of Congress, Schumer once gave an impassioned speech against President Barack Obama’s so-called Iran Nuclear Deal. You would have thought you were listening to David Ben-Gurion or Benjamin Netanyahu with his opposition to the Obama administration. And he was right to do so. It was one of those rare moments when Chuck Schumer was involved in a random act of patriotism.
But then, in time, and under a Republican president who eventually pulled us out of that disastrous deal, Schumer exposed to the world that his passionate speech was nothing but pure politics, because he flip-flopped and began supporting the nuclear deal with the world’s top state sponsor for terrorism, especially against Israel.
“Senators would start thinking about changing other rules when they became ‘inconvenient.’ Instead of two-thirds of the vote to change a rule, you’d now have precedent that it only takes a bare majority. Altering Senate rules to help in one political fight or another could become standard operating procedure, which, in my view, would be disastrous.”
Biden also opposed ending the filibuster throughout his career until it impeded his current authoritarian fascism. In a speech he gave in 2005, he said that the vote on the nuclear option was “the single most significant vote anyone of us will cast in my 32 years in the senate.”
He also said, “At its core, the filibuster is not about stopping a nominee or a bill — it’s about compromise and moderation.”
The most insufferable thing is to listen to Biden yammer on about how Democrats need to change the Senate rules to advance a broad federal overhaul of US election laws to remove Republican election integrity laws.
Think about this for a moment. Blue states have not created election integrity laws because they like to cheat. Only red states have done so. No one, not one single person in America with a straight face, can soberly point to a single Republican election integrity package that does not make it easier for citizens to vote while at the same time make it harder for people to cheat. Remove Democrat rhetoric and read the bills.
Thankfully, Senator Manchin has confirmed again he will not support ending the filibuster, showing he has more integrity than the three bozos the party sent to speak with him. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) also does not support ending the filibuster. Several other Democrat lawmakers are also against it. But let times like this remind us all that the leadership of the Democratic Party is supporting fascistic policies to bully the country to create a permanent Democrat majority because they know they are going to take a large hit in the midterm elections in November.
