In a rare act of journalism, CNN host, Poppy Harlow held Alejandro’s feet to the fire over the crisis on the border that Mayorkas refuses to acknowledge. Mayorkas and the Democrats are using misinformation in order to claim they are doing better than Trump. In 2020 there were 547,816 apprehensions at the southern border between January 2020 and December 2020. That compares to 178,883 apprehensions since January 1, 2021. However, that does not tell us how many went to Remain in Mexico and how many were turned back because of Title 42.
But, let us assume for a moment that the total number is correct.
Today’s news is that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) encountered migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border without authorization 1.66 million times in the fiscal year (FY) 2021. The number of undocumented immigrant crossings at the southwest border for the fiscal year 2022 topped 2.76 million. Do you see the results of open borders? Democrats swear that the border was in worse shape under Trump because he did not pass immigration reform, which is liberalese for mass amnesty for over 20 million illegal aliens.
Mayorkas tied himself in knots trying not to confirm that the border is a man-made disaster orchestrated by Joe Biden and Mayorkas. They have torn down or tried to tear down every barrier that President Trump set up to limit illegal immigration.
During an interview on “CNN This Morning,” anchor Poppy Harlow directly asked Mayorkas whether there is a crisis at the border:
Mayorkas replied:
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL“You know, we have seen the situation at the border managed in an orderly way. We have seen it in extraordinarily challenging circumstances as well. You can rest assured, Poppy, that we’re doing everything that we possibly can to build a system that provides humanitarian relief in a safe and orderly way while trying to persuade Congress to fix what is a broken system.”
Harlow countered:
“But just what you’re seeing, what you’ve seen the 20 times you’ve been there — the record number of migrants at the southern border — and last year it was nearly 2.4 million.”
“If that’s not a crisis, Secretary, what is?”

“It is reflective of a migration challenge that is gripping the entire hemisphere.”
“When I was in Colombia, I spoke with the president of the country, the foreign minister, the minister of security, and they spoke of 2.4 million Venezuelans in Columbia now. We’re seeing Costa Rica’s population increasingly formed by Nicaraguans. We’re seeing a tremendous movement of people throughout the hemisphere.
“A regional challenge requires a regional solution, which is why President Biden has led the regional leaders in addressing it.”
Despite Biden announcing new immigration plans to finally address the border crisis — including the expansion of Title 42 expulsions — Mayorkas once again claimed on Thursday that the border “is not open.”
If it looks like a disaster, smells like a disaster, and walks like a disaster, it’s a disaster.
