House Republicans asked the US Treasury Department for access to “suspicious activity reports” about Hunter Biden and other members of the Biden family’s foreign banking and business transactions. The US Treasury Department said no. In a letter to Representative James Comer (R-KY), who is in charge of House Oversight and Accountability, Jonathan Davidson, who is in charge of the Treasury’s legislative affairs, asked for more information about why the GOP made its request.
Financial institutions make “suspicious activity reports” when they notice strange financial moves and send them to the federal government.
The Treasury Department said that it must first figure out if releasing the records is in line with “longstanding Executive Branch interests.”
As reported by The Hill:
“It is important that a requesting committee specify in writing its purpose in seeking to obtain the requested information and the use it intends to make of it so that the Department can make a determination as to whether the disclosure is appropriate and consistent with longstanding Executive Branch interests, including the protection of ongoing law enforcement investigations,”
As part of his panel’s investigation, Comer had asked on January 11 for any suspicious activity reports about Biden’s son’s business and other dealings abroad. Republican lawmakers think that Hunter Biden may have made money from his business deals in Ukraine and China and may have shared money, credit cards, or bank accounts with his father. From what we’ve learned from the laptop from hell, it’s more likely than not that Joe Biden was involved as the “Big Guy” who took a cut of all earnings the Biden Crime Family gained, according to former Biden Crime Family business partner, Tony Bobulinski.

In response to this question from the GOP-led committee, Davidson released a statement saying that if such highly sensitive information was leaked in the wrong way, it could hurt the executive branch’s ability to do law enforcement and intelligence work well. Chairman Comer replied by saying that these things need to be clear and that Biden’s administration’s attempt to hide them “raises many questions” about whether he has put our national security at risk.
Comer slammed the Treasury’s decision to hide the records, saying it was part of a plan by the Biden administration to hide information about the president’s family.
“This coordinated effort by the Biden Administration to hide information about President Biden and his family’s shady business schemes is alarming and raises many questions,” Comer said in a statement after the letter was released. “We will continue to press for access to suspicious activity reports generated for the Biden family and their associates, and will use the power of the gavel to get them if needed.”
Comer also said he would look into writing legislation that would, if necessary, make federal ethics laws for employees and their families stronger. Davidson said that the U.S. Treasury will figure out how to meet the legitimate needs of Congress while also protecting the interests of the Executive Branch, such as law enforcement initiatives. Comer said that if necessary, he will use “the power of the gavel” to get access to these reports.
In other words, don’t hold your breath.
Republicans are planning to look into more than just the concerns about Hunter Biden’s business dealings over the next few years, while Biden is still in office. As part of their plan to fight back against investigations started by Republican committees, the new administration is counting on help from Democrats in Congress, federal agency employees, and an outside group.
If you think President Joe Biden isn’t behind this, remember that as vice president, he went out of his way to threaten former Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko that he would withhold $1 billion of congressionally authorized military aid if he didn’t fire the Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating Hunter Biden and his company Burisma Holdings. I think that makes it pretty clear what is going on here.
