In a startling episode of what many are calling political retribution, Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City Mayor and personal attorney to former President Donald Trump, has been ordered to pay a staggering $148 million to two Georgia election employees. This ruling, emerging from allegations of election fraud and defamation, raises serious concerns about the use of the justice system to silence the political opposition. If they get away with this in Georgia, then it will become routine to sue someone over free speech issues.
Ruby Freeman and Wandrea Moss sued Giuliani, who had previously represented former President Donald Trump as his personal attorney, accusing them of participating in a sham balloting conspiracy in Fulton County during the 2020 presidential election.
Fulton County is notorious for election fraud irregularities long before the 2020 election. According to election experts, over 90% of election problems in the state come from Fulton.
At the heart of this matter was Giuliani’s quest for election integrity. In questioning the 2020 presidential election results, Giuliani wasn’t merely expressing an opinion; he was voicing the concerns of millions who doubted the election’s fairness. Yet, instead of addressing these concerns, the Democrats have been weaponizing the legal system against conservatives and Republicans. It’s a classic case of shooting the messenger instead of reading the message.
The jury awarded Freeman $16 million in compensatory damages for defamation and Moss $17 million in compensatory damages for defamation. They also awarded each $20 million for emotional distress and $75 million in punitive damages.
The exorbitant $148 million penalty doesn’t just seem like a punishment; it appears to be a stark warning: challenge the status quo, and you’ll face dire consequences. It’s akin to saying, “Let sleeping dogs lie,” but here, the ‘dogs’ are potential election irregularities that warrant a fair examination.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELThis story is a cautionary tale about the power dynamics in politics. Everything the Democrats have done since that election, which has had consequences for conservatives and Trump supporters, has been to get away with what they did in the 2020 election and to frighten conservatives against complaining about future election irregularities. As part of that effort, the Democrats in Georgia have gone after Trump and 19 others from his orbit, claiming they broke the law and committed RICO violations. It’s all intimidation tactics, and Democrats have no problem weaponizing the justice system to do it.
I hope Giuliani wins on appeal, or at least has the amount lowered to something below insanity.
