In a move sparking heated debates across Tennessee, Republican Governor Bill Lee signed legislation on Friday that permits teachers and school personnel to carry firearms on K–12 public school campuses. The bill, HB 1202/SB 1325, takes effect immediately, granting districts the authority to implement measures they deem necessary to enhance student safety.
Addressing reporters, Governor Lee emphasized the significance of empowering districts with tools to safeguard children. “What’s important is that we give districts tools and the option to use a tool that will keep their children safe,” he stated. “There are folks across the state who disagree on the way forward, but we all agree that we should keep our kids safe.”
The Associated Press reported that the bill mandates strict guidelines for employees seeking to carry weapons on campus. Employees must undergo comprehensive background checks, psychological screenings, and rigorous training programs. Specifically, they must complete 40 hours of basic school policing training and an additional 40 hours of Peace Officers Standards and Training.
However, a controversial provision within the bill prohibits disclosing the identities of armed staff members, including to parents and fellow teachers. Only school administrators and law enforcement agencies will have access to this information.
The bill sparked widespread demonstrations in the state capital, including a spectacular “die in” rally.

The most dangerous place for a child to be is in a school that declares a gun free school zone. That means that no one may carry a gun, no student, no adult, and that includes people who work at the school. If a gunman wants to shoot as many people as possible, he will go to a gun free school zone because he knows that there will be no adults there who can shoot back at him.
The main purpose of adults being able to carry concealed weapons inside a school is not to shoot anyone. The perception to a would be shooter that there could be an adult inside the building who would shoot back at them is enough to be a deterrent for most shooters. A shooter may be crazy, but he’s not stupid. It is why you never hear of a mass shooting inside a police station. A shooter is not going to go to a place where he knows people may be armed, but he doesn’t know who. It’s too much of a risk.
I guarantee schools that have this policy will no longer have to worry about an active shooter in the school.
These are the best signs you could put up outside a school.

When a potential mass shooter walks up to a school and sees a sign like this, it makes him think he should go and find a school that doesn’t have a sign like this.
His ideal school would probably have a sign like this:

Liberals think a sign where the threat is that they will face severe penalties is going to stop a crazed lunatic from looking to shoot up a school.
Those who support the proposal claim that it will significantly benefit rural communities with fewer police resources.
Senator Ken Yager, who is a Republican, said, “It’s time that we look at the facts of the bill, that we are not trying to shoot a student, but protect a student from an active shooter whose sole purpose is to get into that school and kill people.”
