Tuesday’s presidential debate provided yet another glaring example of mainstream media bias, as former President Donald Trump faced off not only against Vice President Kamala Harris but also two ABC moderators. What became evident was the consistent use of selective fact-checking, heavily tilted against Trump. Below, we’ll break down key moments of misinformation, biased moderation, and Kamala Harris’s misleading statements throughout the debate.
The ABC Moderators’ Selective Fact-Checking
From the outset, the ABC moderators seemed intent on “fact-checking” President Trump at every opportunity, while allowing Kamala Harris’s lies to slide by without question. This unequal treatment isn’t just concerning for the integrity of the debate format—it reflects a broader issue within mainstream media.
The ABC moderators fact-checked Trump 7 times while not fact-checking Kamala Harris even once, even after she spread the Charlottesville lie.
Trump supporters and conservatives have become increasingly aware of the media’s tilt towards progressive narratives. In this debate, it was no different. Multiple instances of falsehoods from Harris were left unchecked while Trump faced immediate scrutiny. Below, we highlight several major points of contention.
Kamala Harris’s Misleading Statements
Claim #1: She Would Never Take Your Guns
Fact: Kamala Harris has consistently advocated for strict gun control measures, including gun confiscation programs like mandatory buybacks. This stands in stark contrast to her statement during the debate, where she claimed she would never take Americans’ guns. In fact, her record shows a clear intention to restrict Second Amendment rights. Just last week, after a school shooting, Kamala said the government has to get rid of these guns, referring to AR-15 style rifles.
Here is Kamala supporting the idea of a so-called government “buy back” program where gun owners turn their guns into the government and get money for them. First of all, how the the government “buy back” your guns when they never sold them to you in the first place?

The reality is, Kamala will get to keep the guns protecting her while she forces you to turn yours in.

Claim #2: Kamala Said Supports a Secure Border Policy
Fact: The Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies have led to an unprecedented surge in illegal crossings. Despite her claim of supporting a “secure border,” Harris has long backed lenient immigration laws and has been criticized for the failure to enforce stricter measures. Under her and President Biden’s leadership, the southern border has seen record numbers of illegal crossings.
Claim #3: The Charlottesville “Very Fine People” Hoax
Fact: Kamala Harris once again repeated the discredited claim that Trump referred to neo-Nazis and white supremacists as “very fine people” during the 2017 Charlottesville rally. In reality, Trump explicitly condemned the neo-Nazis and white supremacists, saying they should be “condemned totally.” Despite this, the narrative persists, further perpetuated by Harris and others in the media.
Here is Donald Trump during his Charlottesville speech where he condemns both hate groups that the entire fake news industry edited out:

January 6th Lies: Who Really Incited the Insurrection?
Claim #4: Kamala Said Trump Incited the January 6 Insurrection
Fact: Kamala Harris accused Trump of inciting the events of January 6, 2021. However, Trump’s speech on that day, delivered far from the Capitol, included calls for peaceful protests. He urged his supporters to “march peacefully and patriotically.” The media’s portrayal of this as incitement ignores these key statements. Furthermore, Harris’s implication that officers died on January 6 is misleading; no police officers died during the events of the day itself.
The Economic Legacy: Harris’s False Claims on Trump’s Economy
Claim #5: Kamala Said Trump Had the Worst Economy
Fact: Kamala Harris’s assertion that Trump presided over the “worst economy” fails to take into account the global COVID pandemic that drastically impacted economies worldwide. Pre-pandemic, the Trump administration oversaw record low unemployment rates, tax cuts, and significant job creation. The US economy was soaring. It was the COVID-19 pandemic, compounded by state-level lockdowns often championed by Democrats, that led to economic turmoil.
Oil Production: Falsehoods on Energy Policy
Claim #6: The Biden-Harris Administration Increased Oil Production
Fact: This statement is categorically false. The Biden administration has taken multiple steps to curb domestic oil production, including the halting of new oil and gas leases on federal land. Kamala Harris’s attempt to paint the administration as pro-oil is deceptive, given their emphasis on transitioning away from fossil fuels and their policies aimed at reducing production.
The Afghanistan Withdrawal: Blaming Trump for Biden’s Failures
Claim #7: The Afghanistan Withdrawal Was Trump’s Fault
Fact: Kamala Harris attempted to shift the blame for the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal onto Trump. However, it was the Biden administration that chose to execute the poorly planned withdrawal, which left American citizens and allies in danger. The chaotic exit, marked by the loss of 13 U.S. service members and abandonment of military equipment, occurred under Biden’s direct orders.
The Reality of Foreign Policy: Putin, Ukraine, and Trump
Claim #8: Putin Would Be in Kyiv if Trump Were President
Fact: Kamala Harris’s claim that Putin would have invaded Kyiv under Trump is baseless. Russia did not make any significant territorial advances during Trump’s presidency, despite having invaded neighboring countries during the Bush, Obama, and now Biden administrations. Trump’s emphasis on diplomacy and energy independence played key roles in maintaining stability.
The Moderators’ Abortion Misinformation
One of the most blatant instances of media bias occurred when ABC News moderator Linsey Davis framed voting against a proposed abortion amendment in Florida as support for a six-week abortion restriction. The reality is that the amendment in question, called Amendment 4, would enshrine a right to abortion until fetal viability in the state constitution.
A Bias That Cannot Be Ignored
The 2024 presidential debate was marred by a lack of fairness from the moderators and a steady stream of falsehoods from Kamala Harris. The selective fact-checking and biased questioning further entrenched the growing distrust many Americans feel toward the media. As voters, it’s critical to examine these debates through a lens of objective truth rather than accepting narratives spoon-fed by the fake news media.
It was obvious that ABC had a narrative to play out during the debate that was to make Kamala Harris look good and Donald Trump look bad. Now you know why Kamala refuses to do a Fox News debate because she knows they would never allow her to get away with the plethora of lies she told Tuesday night.
