Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia is a citizen of El Salvador who illegally entered the United States around 2011. In 2019, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) initiated removal proceedings under Title 8, citing that he was present in the U.S. without having been lawfully admitted or paroled.

Abrego Garcia requested a bond hearing, arguing that he posed no flight risk. He noted that he had lived in the United States for eight years, had two brothers who are lawful permanent residents, and was engaged to a U.S. citizen who was pregnant with his child. He also stated his intention to apply for asylum.

DHS opposed the bond request, presenting evidence that Abrego Garcia was affiliated with the MS-13 gang. Their primary evidence was a Police Department Gang Field Interview Sheet. However, Abrego Garcia was not given the opportunity to cross-examine the detective responsible for the gang designation.

The court ultimately ruled that bond was not appropriate in this case and found that the evidence sufficiently demonstrated Abrego Garcia was a verified MS-13 gang member. He appealed the decision, but the Board of Immigration Appeals reviewed the case and dismissed the appeal.

Let that marinate for a moment: Democrats are falling all over themselves to defend an illegal alien with ties to drugs, a history of domestic violence, and verified membership in MS-13. And now they want him brought back to the U.S. for “due process” — even though he’s already been lawfully ordered deported. In other words, he received a final order of deportation. That’s the government’s way of saying, “You have no more legal paths to travel.”

The Democrats aren’t making a legal argument—they’re pushing a desperate narrative that falls apart under the slightest scrutiny.

Even if they managed to drag him back, he’d be deported again in a heartbeat. This wasn’t a mistake—it was a masterfully laid trap. Trump set the bait, Democrats took it without thinking, and now they’re scrambling to backpedal while pretending they were never interested. Suddenly, CNN and the other usual suspects are singing a new tune: “It’s not about one man,” they say, “it’s about the process.” Yeah, okay, sure. This is from the same media outlets that spent days polishing Garcia’s image like he was a misunderstood poet just looking for a break.

Now that the facts are out—and they’re ugly—the pivot is in full effect. Too bad the facts won’t go away. Garcia was identified by the 2019 Prince George’s County gang unit as an MS-13 member. His wife’s 2021 abuse allegations came complete with photos. Even the radical left-wing Snopes admitted this is true.

And yet, the Democrats continue to double down like it’s Vegas and the house doesn’t always win. James Carville even dragged himself out to mumble through some nonsense that equates “deporting a violent gang member” with “sliding into fascism.” Please.

“People say, ‘Well, should we really fight on this turf or should we fight more on ordinary people?’ This we should fight on. You can’t pivot to an economic issue. This is why we think we’re a country,” Carville said on his “Politics War Room” podcast.

Democrats are now claiming that because a court granted Garcia protective status back in 2019, the Trump administration is somehow violating that order. Nice try. A lot can change in five or six years. That protection was originally granted because Garcia claimed he feared retaliation from a rival gang in El Salvador — a gang that opposed MS-13. But here’s what Van Hollen and the rest of the dishonest Democrat crowd won’t tell you: that gang doesn’t even exist anymore. The threat is gone, and so is their argument.

So what are the Democrats doing? Exactly what you’d expect—doubling down on failure. They’re turning MS-13 gang members into political martyrs and backing policies that basically scream, “We’ve completely given up.”
