President Donald Trump says someone leaked sensitive information about a U.S. pilot who went down in Iran. And he is not brushing it off. He is saying clearly that his administration plans to find out exactly who did it.
Seriously, what is wrong with people who work for Trump? Whether it was intentional or an accident, you would think that people with that kind of intel would know better than to blab it out in front of reporters.
He made these comments at the White House on Monday while talking about the rescue of two pilots from an F-15E Strike Eagle that was hit and crashed inside Iran.
Trump said, “We think we’ll be able to find it out because we’re going to go to the media company that released it, and we’re going to say, ‘National security, give it up or go to jail.’”
Now think about that for a moment. That is not just frustration. That is a signal. He is saying this is not routine. This is serious.
Before getting into the leak, Trump pointed to the rescue itself as a major success for the United States. He framed it as a clear win and, in his view, a setback for Iran. Then he pivoted, and this is where things get interesting.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL“As you probably know, we didn’t talk about the first one for an hour, and then somebody leaked something,” the president said.
He continued, “Which, we’ll hopefully find that leaker. We’re looking very hard to find that leaker. … They basically said that, ‘We have one, and there’s somebody missing.’ Well, [Iran] didn’t know there was somebody missing until this leaker gave the information.”
That is the heart of the issue. The argument here is simple. This was not just information getting out. This may have changed the situation on the ground in real time. If Iran did not know a second pilot was missing, and suddenly they did, that creates a completely different risk.
Both pilots were eventually rescued over the weekend. The original incident had been reported on Friday. So the timeline here is tight, and every detail mattered.
Trump came back to the leak again and repeated his position.
“So whoever it was, we think we’ll be able to find it out because we’re going to go to the media company that released it, and we’re going to say, ‘National security, give it up or go to jail,’” Trump continued.
Then he added something that really underlines his concern.
“And we know who and you know who we’re talking about. Because some things you can’t do because when they did that, all of a sudden the entire country of Iran knew that there was a pilot that was somewhere on their land that was fighting for his life.”
According to Trump, that single leak made the rescue mission for the second pilot much more difficult. That is the claim, and if true, it raises obvious questions about how information like this is handled.
According to The Hill, early reports that included the leaked details came from The New York Times, Axios, and Fox News.
There is also a detail that people noticed right away.
The timing.
The aircraft was shot down on Good Friday. The successful rescues were reported on Easter Sunday.
That stood out to a lot of people. Not because it changes the facts, but because it adds a layer of meaning to an already intense situation.
And when you step back, that is what this story really is about. It is about a rescue, yes. It is about a leak, definitely. But more than anything, it is about how fast things can shift when sensitive information gets out at the worst possible moment.
