So here’s a story that’s almost too Hollywood to be real—but, of course, it is.
Actor George Clooney—yes, the guy from the espresso commercials and Ocean’s Eleven—went on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 this week to talk about his newest fear: being targeted by President Donald Trump. That’s right. According to Clooney, the president might be coming for… him. Personally.
Anderson Cooper, with that trademark look of dramatic concern, asked him, “Do you worry about, I mean, personally being targeted by the administration?”
To which Clooney replied—and buckle up because this gets real introspective real fast—“Sure. Everybody worries about it. But, you know, if you spend your life worrying about things, then you won’t do things. You know, we have a, we, like everybody, have a family, and we have a life, and we try to, you know, live and do the things as the best example for our kids. And I want to be able to look at my kids in the eye and say where we stood and what we did at certain times in history. And I’m not I have no problem with that. And my wife certainly does. And my wife’s the bravest person you’ve ever met. And, you know, she spent my wife, spent two years in a bunker in Beirut. Trying Hezbollah for killing Hariri. She’s the only person to put.”
Oh no, George Clooney’s worried Trump might “target” him? That’s adorable. The guy lives in a mansion on Lake Como, has bodyguards, a tequila empire, and access to every media outlet on Earth—but yes, tell us more about your bravery, George. Meanwhile, Trump’s trying to stop the country from collapsing and Clooney’s out here acting like he’s living in a Jason Bourne movie.
Now, just to pause for a moment here. That’s quite a monologue. There’s fear, there’s nobility, there’s kids, there’s history, and of course, there’s Amal Clooney, who apparently was “trying Hezbollah” while living in a bunker in Beirut. Not starring in a movie about it—actually doing it.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELYou’ve got to admire the drama of it all. But also maybe just take a deep breath, George. The Secret Service probably isn’t casing your villa because you made a speech on CNN. It is disgusting that people of Clooney’s ilk get to manufacture dark narratives about the president that are just not true.
Still, this is what passes for serious political commentary in celebrity land. Be afraid. Trump might tweet at you. Or worse… send a mean emoji.
