158 House Democrats Voted Against Deporting Illegal Aliens Convicted of Sex Offenses and We Name Them

Seriously, what’s going on here? More than 150 House Democrats actually voted against a bill that would deport illegal immigrants convicted of sexual offenses or even conspiring to commit such crimes. Yep, you read that right—against deporting people who don’t belong here in the first place and who have been convicted of sex crimes. Let that sink in.

The bill, called the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, somehow passed the House of Representatives on Wednesday with bipartisan support. Every single Republican present voted for it, along with 51 Democratic lawmakers. The final vote was 266 to 158.

Reps. Mary Peltola (D-Alaska), Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez (D-Wash.), Jared Moskowitz (D-Florida), and Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) were among the Democrats who voted in favor of the bill. And guess what? Two of the Democrats who voted for it are aiming for higher office—Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., is running for Senate, and Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., is running for governor. Imagine that.

But let’s get this straight: this bill doesn’t just stop at deporting those convicted of sex crimes. Oh no, it also bars illegal immigrants who admit to domestic violence, stalking, child abuse, sex-related charges, or violating a protection order—or are convicted of them—from being allowed into the U.S. Sounds pretty straightforward, right?

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., wasn’t surprised at the opposition though. She told Fox News Digital hours before the vote that she “100%” anticipated Democrats voting against her bill. Her take on that?

“If you vote against it, you’re sexist against women,” Mace declared.

“I mean, truly, because we’re talking about illegals who are here who are committing domestic violence, rape, and murder on women and children—they’ve gotta go. They shouldn’t be allowed into our country.”

It seems like common sense, but apparently, the opposition had other ideas. Democrats were quick to label the bill as “xenophobic” because, of course, protecting women and children from criminals is somehow discriminatory now.

“Here we are again, debating another partisan bill that fear mongers about immigrants, instead of working together to fix the immigration system,” Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), said during the debate of the bill.

“I probably shouldn’t be too surprised. Scapegoating immigrants and attempting to weaponize the crime of domestic violence is appearing to be a time-honored tradition for Republicans.”

Oh please. Weaponizing domestic violence? Last time I checked, getting violent criminals out of the country was called “public safety,” not “scapegoating.”

Despite this ridiculous pushback, the GOP has been getting modest support from some Democrats on border-related issues. For example, Republicans recently passed a bill to detain and deport migrants convicted of assaulting law enforcement—with the help of 54 Democrats. Although, let’s not forget, 148 still voted against it. And let’s not forget the GOP-backed Laken Riley Act—named after an Augusta University nursing student who was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant. That one was supported by thirty-seven House Democrats.

So yeah, some Democrats are waking up to reality. But with more than 150 voting against deporting convicted sex offenders and domestic abusers, it really makes you wonder—what exactly are their priorities?
