New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared on Friday that the city has reached a “breaking point” as record numbers of migrants continue to arrive.
This weekend, the mayor requested emergency mutual aid from New York State in order to lodge the asylum seekers.
Now he knows what it’s like to non-sanctuary cities who get hit with ten times the daily amount of illegals that New York City has gotten.
“We are at our breaking point. Based off our projections, we anticipate being unable to continue sheltering arriving asylum seekers on our own and have submitted an emergency mutual aid request to the State of New York beginning this weekend,” he said in a statement. “This type of request, reserved only for dire emergencies, asks the state for support to shelter arriving asylum seekers as the city faces an immediate need for additional capacity. Our initial request is for shelter to accommodate 500 asylum seekers, but, as New York City continues to see numbers balloon, this estimate will increase as well.”
More than 3,100 asylum seekers are said to have arrived in the city in the previous week, with 835 coming on Thursday alone.
It’s a real shame Adams and other Democrats don’t take it up with the Biden administration by asking them to follow our immigration laws and kick the illegal migrants out of the country. It is amazing what Democrats will put up with for ideology. If Democrat leaders would just grow a pair and let the administration know that they will no longer house their chattel for Joe Biden‘s politics, the administration would be hit with the reality that what they are doing is creating a humanitarian crisis. Apparently, the Biden administration cares neither about the illegals nor the American citizens whose lives are being turned upside down.

On that day, I said we would surpass the highest number of people in recorded history in our city’s shelter system and that every day after we would set a new record,” Adams said. “We are now seeing more people arrive than we have ever seen — averaging over 400 people each day this last week, with 835 asylum seekers arriving on one single day alone, the largest single-day arrival we’ve seen to date. All this is pushing New York City to the brink.”
Adams said that the city has taken in approximately 40,000 asylum seekers since the spring of 2022, opening 74 emergency shelters and four humanitarian relief centers. Multiply that by 10 and you get an idea of what it’s like to live in El Paso, which was a nice, quiet town until Joe Biden became president and turned it into a nightmare.
“The absence of sorely needed federal immigration reform should not mean that this humanitarian crisis falls only on the shoulders of cities,” Adams said. “We need support and aid from our federal and state partners and look forward to working together to meet this crisis head-on.”
Don’t you love how Democrats continue to blame what Joe Biden and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas are bringing to America as a need for “immigration reform?” What they call a need for immigration reform is having the deal with the actual reforms that the Trump administration implemented when they solved our illegal immigration problem. These Democrats are liars and scoundrels and when you hear them make arguments like this you know they are not sincere at all about solving the problems they themselves helped create. When you declare your jurisdiction as a sanctuary for third world paupers who disrespect our immigration laws then you had better be prepared to walk the walk after all your talk.
According to Politico, Adams estimated that the cost of processing asylum seekers would be close to $2 billion, and he labeled the lack of a federal response to the problem “inhumane” and “irresponsible.” At least he’s including the Biden administration in his whining. That’s progress.
