By all accounts, the charges against President Trump are as bogus as the narrative that Biden is cognitive. The jury in Washington, DC is extremely biased against conservatives in general and against Trump in particular, and a biased judge can control what is presented to the jury.
That means Trump could be convicted even though the charges hold as much water as the Gobi Desert. But, the judge made three contributions to Act Blue for liberal causes, which is not just unethical/ it is illegal.
To make matters worse, Acting New York County Supreme Court Justice Juan Manuel Merchan’s daughter worked for the Biden/Harris campaign in 2020. Granted, his contributions were extremely small, but that does show an extreme bias.
That hands an appeal if Trump is convicted. Perhaps that is the Democrats’ plan all along. His trial is set for December and an appeal would happen sometime months later during the primaries. They want to tie him up in litigation even when they know Trump committed no crimes.
According to FEC filings, Judge Juan Merchan donated 3x to ActBlue:
– 1st donation was earmarked for Biden's 2020 presidential campaign
– 2nd was pledged to a PAC that rallies voter turnout for Dems
– 3rd went to Stop Republicans, which is dedicated to "resisting" Trump & the GOP pic.twitter.com/LcQfDW0fb5— Mia Cathell (@MiaCathell) April 4, 2023

Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group, said:
“Judges are prohibited under ethics rules from donating to political campaigns and organizations,” tweeted Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group. “Accordingly, there are legitimate concerns about Judge Merchan’s reported political contributions while a sitting judge to Biden and Democratic causes.”
Elie Honig, a senior CNN legal analyst replied:
“While the amounts here are minimal, it’s surprising that a sitting judge would make political donations of any size to a partisan candidate or cause.”
Stephen Gillers, a professor of legal ethics at New York University, explained that New York, like many other states, does not allow judges to work or contribute to political campaigns. He could lose his judgeship, but I doubt anyone would go that far.
According to Gillers, the contributions made by Judge Merchan to Joe Biden’s campaign and the “Stop Republicans” sub-project may be prohibited under this code unless there is another explanation that allows for them. However, Gillers also noted that the small sums involved would likely be viewed as trivial and that any ethics complaint made wouldn’t accomplish much and wouldn’t require recusal.
Perhaps not, but it does pose a public relations problem for the left in the ongoing case of Trump and the so-called “hush money” payments to Stormy Daniels, as it serves as evidence of Merchan’s lack of impartiality and would give Trump’s lawyers grounds for an appeal.

Judges must “actively disengage from all these human aspects of who they are” when dealing with cases in front of them, she said.
Among other things, Greenstein helps judges to understand that they can’t use generalizations and need to set aside personal impressions. “Generalizations have no role in that courtroom,” she said.
Hardest to set aside are personal morals and religious beliefs, which are “our idea of what’s right and wrong,” Greenstein said. That can be difficult but necessary for judges to do, particularly on an issue like marriage equality.
William E. Dailey Jr., managing attorney at the Dailey Law Firm LLC in St. Louis, Missouri, recalled something from what he called “law school 101,” which is avoiding the appearance of impropriety. Because implicit bias is subconscious, it needs to be proactively addressed from “the lowest level to the highest level,” he said.
