Do the hosts make Fox News what it is, or is it Fox news that makes the hosts? That is a fair question now that three popular Fox hosts have jumped ship and bombed out where they signed with.
The first two, you already know about and that is Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace. You can now add another name and that is Shepard Smith. He will be broadcasting his last show at the end of this month and will be leaving CNBC at that time.
Smith signed with CNBC in 2020 and he was given his own show. His numbers were always low and recently he has been even worse.
He was brought on board to be a contrasting voice, but his show never did reach that goal as Smith is not really a conservative.
He has not found another job yet and he quite possibly never will unless he can catch on with an internet podcast or something equivalent.
Smith was given the much sought-after 7:00 PM time slot, but after two years CNBC has seen enough and will jettison Smith while looking for a replacement.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELSmith was able to book many high-profile guests, but that did not show up in the ratings where it really matters. “The News with Shepard Smith” struggled mightily in the ratings. W@aPo claims that Smith’s show did not even crack the top 50 most-watched cable shows.
A memo from CNBC President KC Sullivan reads:
“After spending time with many of you and closely reviewing the various aspects of our business, I believe we must prioritize and focus on our core strengths of business news and personal finance.”
“We need to further invest in business news content that provides our audiences actionable understanding of the complex developments in global markets and the implications on institutions, investors, and individuals.”
Smith spent 23 years at Fox News but decided to quit because he did not like how biased Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson were according to him. Tucker and Sean are still big stars, whereas Smith is nothing more than a has been.
Smith said:
“Opine all you like, but if you’re going to opine, begin with the truth and opine from there. When people begin with a false premise and lead people astray, that’s injurious to society, and it’s the antithesis of what we should be doing. Those of us who are so honored and grateful to have a platform of public influence have to use it for the public good.”
Smith is best known for the 23 years he spent at Fox News. For much of his time at Fox, Smith hosted a prime-time news program entitled “The Fox Report with Shepard Smith.” His program then became “Shepard Smith Reporting” and moved to the late afternoon. However, Smith eventually became frustrated with various opinion show hosts, including Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, who demonstrated what Smith believed to be a heavy bias in favor of then-President Donald Trump, and he resigned abruptly in 2019.
After Smith’s final episode, CNBC will air market coverage at 7 p.m. until a business-oriented replacement program launches sometime next year.
