The Biden-Harris administration has negotiated a plea agreement with suspected September 11, 2001, terrorist mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM) and seven other accused plotters detained at Guantanamo Bay. According to the agreement, none of the alleged plotters, including KSM, will face the death penalty for committing the bloodiest terrorist assault in American history.
“The Convening Authority for Military Commissions has entered into pretrial agreements with Khalid Shaikh Mohammad, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin ‘Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi, three of the co-accused in the 9/11 case,” an Office of Military Commissions (OMC) spokesman announced on Wednesday.
The announcement was a tough pill to chew for victims’ relatives, who had been impatiently awaiting the outcome of the case for nearly 24 years, with many believing that death was the only proper penalty for the perpetrators of the horrible attacks.
According to family relatives of 9/11 victims, the OMC has assured them that the terrorists would not be executed.
The news that the death penalty was no longer an option for the terrorists — whose alleged activities killed almost 3,000 people in the deadliest terror assault on US soil in American history — came as a shock to victims’ relatives.
Daniel D’Allara, whose twin brother, John, was one of the 23 NYPD officers slain on the day of the attacks, said, “I am extremely disappointed. We patiently waited for a long time. I am very disappointed. We waited patiently for a long time. I wanted the death penalty — the government has failed us.”
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELRetired police officer Jim Smith, husband of Moira Smith, the only female NYPD officer killed on 9/11, said he felt “kicked in the balls.”
“The prosecution and families have waited 23 years to have our day in court to put on the record what these animals did to our loved ones. They took that opportunity away from us,” the distraught widower lamented.
“They committed the worst crime in the history of our country, they should receive the highest penalty.”
KSM and the other 9/11 plotters are being jailed at the special US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on charges of providing training, financial support, and other help to the al-Qaeda terrorists who carried out the attack.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed when al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four US airliners and flew two of them into the World Trade Center buildings in New York City. A third plane flew into the Pentagon, which houses the United States Department of Defense in Washington, D.C.
After passengers fought back against their hijackers, a fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. It is thought that they intended to fly it into the United States Capitol building.
