According to a report, President Biden plans to submit many modifications to the United States Constitution on Monday in order to fulfill his commitment to reform the Supreme Court.
In a departure from the president’s historic opposition to changes to the high court, Biden stated on Wednesday that Supreme Court reform would be one of his top goals for the remainder of his term in office. Biden declared on Sunday that he would not seek re-election, citing rising pressure from Democratic Party officials who requested that he resign following his widely criticized debate performance in June.
According to Politico, the president is anticipated to propose term limits for Supreme Court justices, which would necessitate a constitutional amendment, as well as the establishment of an enforceable code of ethics that Congress could pass.
Biden is also expected to endorse a constitutional amendment that would limit immunity for presidents and certain other officeholders, following the court’s ruling in July that presidents cannot be punished for “official acts” while in office. The court’s decision resulted from a case involving former President Donald Trump.
The framers of the Constitution purposefully made it difficult to modify. A two-thirds majority in both the House and the Senate is required to ratify any proposed amendment, which is subsequently referred to the states for ratification. To become the supreme law of the land, it must be accepted by three-fourths of the 50 states, or 38.
“This decision today has continued the court’s attack in recent years on a wide range of long-established legal principles in our nation, from gutting voting rights and civil rights to taking away a woman’s right to choose, to today’s decision that undermines the rule of law of this nation,” Biden said following the court’s announcement that it had handed its opinion back up.

In an Oval Office statement Wednesday, Biden stated that Supreme Court change is “critical to our democracy” and explained his decision to withdraw from the 2024 election.
“Over the next six months, I’ll be focused on doing my job as president. That means I’ll continue to lower costs for hard-working families, grow our economy. I’ll keep defending our personal freedoms and our civil rights, from the right to vote to the right to choose. I’ll keep calling out hate and extremism, make it clear there is no place, no place in America for political violence or any violence ever, period. I’m going to keep speaking out to protect our kids from gun violence, our planet from climate crisis, is the existential threat,” Biden said.
“And I will keep fighting for my for my cancer moonshot, so we can end cancer as we know it because we can do it. And I’m going to call for Supreme Court reform because this is critical to our democracy, Supreme Court reform. You know, I will keep working to ensure America remains strong and secure and the leader of the free world.”
