Curtis Sliwa, the creator of Guardian Angels and a former Republican New York City mayoral candidate, spent Sunday trying to persuade his Brooklyn neighbors to utilize stray cats to combat the city’s rat infestation crisis. And I’m not talking about the NYC Democratic Party.
According to the New York Post, Sliwa walked across Brooklyn, talking to residents about establishing a feral cat colony as a natural approach of curbing the city’s rat population rise. He was accompanied by two police officers, who waited in their car and observed the former candidate, telling the New York Post that they were “just finding out what [was] going on.”

The New York Times referred to the idea of using the cats and “absurdity,” so you know Sliwa is on the right track. Whatever the Times says, do the opposite is a really good rule of thumb.
According to the Post, Sliwa persuaded at least one of his neighbors to help create and maintain the colony. “To be honest with you, we’re not really concerned with the mayor. We’re concerned as citizens. We want the rat problem in our neighborhood taken care of,” a neighbor informed Sliwa. “The problem is people are dirty, so we need sweepers to come sweep the street and pick up the garbage.”
In 2019, the city tried a variety of methods to combat the out-of-control vermin problem, including the usage of alcohol.
