There is a rallying cry coming from a desperate Democratic Party trying to freshen up its aging brand with younger, shinier faces ahead of the 2026 midterms. Think of it as political Botox—inject some youth into the party and hope nobody notices the sagging numbers.
Enter Leaders We Deserve, a Political Action Committee (PAC) that just threw $20 million into the political ring to help primary challengers knock out House Democratic incumbents in safely blue districts. Translation: “Let’s eat our own, but with youthful flair.”
The brains behind this operation? That would be David Hogg, now a DNC Vice Chair, who went from leading gun control protests post-Parkland to now leading the charge for a progressive youth takeover. Because nothing says “fresh energy” like a PAC formed by a 24-year-old who’s already more jaded than a 90s sitcom dad.
But wait, there’s more. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is out shaking political trees, trying to grow a new youth movement. She’s been doing rallies across the country—sometimes even with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who, at 83, isn’t exactly TikTok material but still manages to pull in the college crowd.
According to The Hill:
“Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders have seen massive grassroots fundraising hauls in the off-year cycle. Ocasio-Cortez’s team said she raised more than $9.5 million from 260,000 individual donors, with an average donation of $21. Sanders’s team said he raised $11.5 million in the first quarter of the year.”

Not bad for two people who practically speak in memes.
Meanwhile, the old guard of the Democrat machine? Pretty much ghosted.
Joe Biden, at 82, has been politically benched—sent out to pasture with a bowl of grapes and reruns of “Matlock.” Even some Democrats admit he’s more of a liability than an asset at this point. So they have no former president to help them because Barack Obama is having problems of his own.
Nancy Pelosi, a spry 85, has been largely MIA since a fall in Luxembourg and a hip replacement. Apparently, gravity is more powerful than Congress.
And Chuck Schumer, 74, is clinging to leadership by a single thread of hair. He recently lost major points with the progressive wing for failing to block a House budget resolution, prompting a lot of “OK boomer” energy from his own caucus.
Naturally, the younger blood smells a political opportunity. In just the past few weeks, at least four fresh-faced challengers have stepped up to take on the fossilized incumbents. That includes Pelosi herself, now facing a primary challenge from Saikat Chakrabarti—a 39-year-old former Sanders campaigner and AOC chief of staff who’s literally less than half her age.
There are even whispers that AOC might challenge Schumer for his Senate seat. AOC is too stupid to realize that party unity doesn’t come from throwing political Molotov cocktails at your own leadership.
And yes, these rising stars are hoping to grab the youth vote. The only problem? Young people are kind of over everyone. They’ve had enough and they’ve seen enough of the Democratic Party’s bad behavior to care.
According to YouGov, young voters’ initial honeymoon with Trump, once sitting at a net +5%, has cratered to a net –29% by early April. That’s what happens when you’ve got a left-wing media machine cranking out daily hit pieces, either because they don’t understand what Trump’s doing… or they do and they’re lying on purpose. But don’t think the Democrats are winning prom king either—CNN found that only 30% of voters under 35 view the Democratic Party favorably. In other words, everyone’s flunking popularity in this political high school.
David Hogg, still clutching the mic, told The Hill:
“The Democratic Party says over and over again ‘we have to care about democracy, we have to care about democracy,’ and we do. But the best way to do that is not just to say we need to care about democracy, it is to use democracy to actively help people improve their lives and show them how democracy is the best vehicle to do that.”
Inspiring? Maybe. Clear? Not even close. It reads like something you’d slap on a PowerPoint slide at a corporate retreat—right before half the room fakes a bathroom emergency and never comes back.
If the Democratic Party were a plane, it’s currently flying in circles with nobody at the wheel and a bunch of interns arguing over Spotify playlists.
