PayPal is about to have to explain to House Republicans why they think they have the power to seize clients’ money based on their ideology of what is misinformation. You must remember when Hunter Biden’s laptop was allegedly misinformation.
That didn’t age well. There have been many other instances where ” misinformation” turned out to be true. For example, the story that the government is spying on Americans. That turned out to be even bigger than they thought.
The House Republicans have asked PayPal if they were working with the White House on that policy. They want to know if that policy was put in place to censor conservatives, PayPal will deny it but you and I know it to be true.
I am not convinced that PayPal will cooperate. They have already been bleeding clients right and left and their stock is not doing well. Their stock reached $258.96 in the past 52 weeks, but today it sits at $84.77.
The letter demanded that PayPal send House Republicans information on who drafted the new policy and who approved it and that it be sent to the Energy and Commerce Committee and Financial Services Committee. The letter was signed by Republican Reps. Patrick McHenry of North Carolina and Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington, and they want a response by October 27th. If they don’t respond now, the Republicans will have to wait until next year when they take control of the House and can then issue subpoenas.
A senior GOP aide, speaking exclusively to the Daily Caller News Foundation claimed:

They added that “House Republicans will not sit idly by while our nation’s founding principles are attacked, and especially if there is coordination with the Federal Government, we will demand answers.”
Rep. Tom Emmer wrote:
“The ability to transact without fear of retribution and political censorship is the foundation on which a free economy is built. The American people deserve answers about how these decisions are made and whether their speech will be protected on this platform.”
The likely investigation of PayPal follows a pattern of Congress, both Democrats, and Republicans in investigating Big Tech and its user policies. In the past year, the following CEOs have testified before congress and they are Mark Zuckerberg of Meta (then-named Facebook), Jack Dorsey of Twitter, Tim Cook of Apple, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, and Sundar Pichai of Alphabet (Google’s parent company) all appearing for testimony since 2019.
Democrats have focused on “misinformation” policies that distort the information landscape before elections, per remarks by Rep. Mike Doyle at a high-profile hearing in 2021 with Zuckerberg, Pichai and Dorsey. Republicans, meanwhile, have zeroed in on content restrictions they believe deliberately targets conservative users with the intention of suppressing information to favor left-wing causes and Democratic candidates, allegedly supported by the employees at these companies, with Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham raising the prospect of federal “licensing” requirements to protect users.
Recently, Facebook and Twitter faced criticism from conservatives following reports that officials from the White House, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Health & Human Services contacted the platforms to flag content deemed “misinformation” and request the removal of the postings and accounts. Among those targeted included a parody account of Dr Anthony Fauci, Biden’s Chief Medical Advisor, and an account run by Dr Marty Makary, a surgeon at Johns Hopkins University.
I hope PayPal surprises me, but I am not betting a dime on it.
