Joy Reid, that unshakable lighthouse of historical brilliance and military strategy, just dropped what might be the most intellectually bankrupt take ever uttered by someone with a Harvard degree. Yes, she claims she went to Harvard—might be time to check if they offer refunds.
“You can’t make Canada the 51st state without going to war with them. And let me explain how that worked out the last time we tried to go to war with Canada. They burned the White House to the ground in 1814! And won the war! Canada beat us in the War of 1812! They probably like their chances against us. We’re not going to beat them in a war because we have never been able to do that.”

Let’s unpack this, shall we?
First off, Joy seems to think that during the War of 1812, the United States squared off against Canada. I hate to break it to her, but back then, we were actually tussling with Britain—the global superpower of the time. The war was because of a practice Britain did called “impressment” where they would make slaves of American sailors to work on their ships, and over British blockades that were created to halt U.S. trade. Canada wasn’t even its own country yet; it was still a collection of British colonies. So, saying “Canada beat the U.S.” is like saying your neighbor’s kid beat you in a game when it was actually their pro-athlete parent playing.
And about that whole “burning the White House” incident—yes, British forces did torch it in 1814. But claiming they “won the war” because of that is an Olympic-style stretch, even for the pathological BS artist Joy Reid. The War of 1812 concluded with the Treaty of Ghent, which essentially restored things to how they were before the war. No land or territory of any amount changed hands, and neither side could really claim victory. It’s like both teams played a long, grueling game only to end in a tie.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELLeave it to Joy Reid—MSNBC’s former “race lady” and current queen of revisionist history—to trash America using a fantasy argument built entirely on fiction. For starters, no one is talking about going to war with Canada. That little nugget? Completely made up by Joy to prop up the steaming pile of horsesh*t she broadcast to the world. It’s like she picked up a history book, ignored every word, and decided to freestyle on live TV.
Fast forward to today, and Joy suggests that the U.S. would lose a modern war against Canada because of events from over 200 years ago. By that logic, I should avoid playing basketball because I lost a game of H-O-R-S-E in middle school. While Canada is a strong and respected ally, the idea that the U.S. would lose a contemporary war against them based on a misinterpreted history lesson is, well, laughable. And she did no service to our Canadian friends and families, insinuating that the U.S. would invade our northern friends.
So, Joy, you might want to dust off a real history book before jumping headfirst into these make-believe narratives you always posit. Or better yet, consider a career in stand-up—because if this wasn’t meant to be a joke, it sure landed like one.
