According to the Chicago Tribune, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett has given the city of Naperville, Illinois, until Monday to respond to a challenge to its “assault weapons” ban.
Law Weapons & Supply owner Robert Bevis argues Naperville is hurting his business and is unlawful. It is interesting that the Democrats consider abortion as a constitutional right when there is nothing in the constitution listing it as a right, yet the same party argues that the right to keep and bear arms, which is enshrined in the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights is not absolute.
Bevis filed an emergency motion with Justice Barrett, asking the court to intervene and grant an injunction against two different “assault weapons” bans in Illinois until appeal review, according to Breitbart News.
One is in Naperville, and the other is a state-level ban enshrined in the Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA).
Illinois can protect its communities by going after criminals with guns instead of attacking law-abiding gun owners who have never committed a crime. That’s the problem with every challenge to gun rights leftist Democrats face. It’s not about protecting people from guns. It is always about stripping the American right to keep and bear arms. If it were about protecting Americans, they would go after the criminals and not inanimate objects.
The question in this case is, can the government ban the sale, purchase, and possession of specific semi-automatic firearms and magazines millions of which are possessed by law-abiding Americans for lawful purposes when there is no comparable historical ban as required in District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008) and New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen, 597 U.S (2022). The answer, in my humble opinion, is no.

Respondents are literally destroying Mr. Bevis’s livelihood, because the challenged laws are forcing Law Weapons, Inc., out of business.”
The case now before the Supreme Court is called Bevis et al v. City of Naperville, Illinois, No. 1:2022cv04775 (2023).
