The brutal murder of a woman on the F train—reportedly by an illegal migrant—has pushed New York’s subway murder count to match last year’s record high, a 25-year peak with 10 murders so far.
Terrifying? Yes. Unfortunately, it’s starting to feel like just another day in the Big Apple.
So, how does Gov. Kathy Hochul, New York’s fearless leader in Albany, respond to this latest horror? By addressing the public’s concerns? By offering real solutions? Oh, no. On Sunday, the very day of this horrific arson murder, she decided to toot her own horn about “progress” on subway safety.
“In March, I took action to make our subways safer for the millions of people who take the trains each day,” she tweeted.
Then: “Since deploying the @NationalGuardNY to support @NYPDnews and @MTA safety efforts and adding cameras to all subway cars, crime is going down, and ridership is going up.”
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELSeriously? You’ve got to be kidding. Could a politician be more disconnected from reality?
This is the same Hochul who, during her 2022 campaign, brushed off New Yorkers’ legitimate fears about crime as some kind of made-up political ploy, accusing “master manipulators” of creating a “conspiracy” just to mess with her election chances. Oh, and let’s not forget her snarky question to Lee Zeldin: why was crime “so important” to him?
Spoiler alert: It’s important because people are dying, Kathy.
Here’s the harsh truth: Hochul doesn’t prioritize crime. Sure, she knows voters care about it—that’s why she’s out here gaslighting us with tweets about “progress.” But when it comes to actually doing something? Not so much.
She’s consistently failed to stand up to the Albany crew pushing so-called “progressive” policies that have only fueled the chaos. Criminal justice “reforms” have turned crooks into celebrities and cops into punching bags. Farebeating is basically a free-for-all now, even though research shows that turnstile jumpers often go on to commit worse crimes. But hey, why sweat the small stuff, right?
Then there’s the open border situation under President Biden, coupled with New York’s absurd “sanctuary city” laws. This combo has welcomed everyone from pimps to killers to, yes, the guy who allegedly committed this F-train atrocity. Add to that New York’s ongoing mental health crisis, where so-called “compassion” leaves people with severe issues wandering the streets because there’s no effective way to compel treatment. What could possibly go wrong?
We’ve seen the results over and over. From Michelle Go’s tragic death in 2022 to Sunday’s murder, it’s a nightmare underground. And who’s stepping in to help? Hardly anyone, because trying to do the right thing could land you in hot water with folks like Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, who seems more concerned about prosecuting Good Samaritans than actual criminals.
Just ask Daniel Penny, who stepped up to defend his fellow riders from a deranged vagrant and ended up facing charges himself. It’s a lose-lose scenario.
Meanwhile, Hochul is busy tweeting away as if everything’s fine. Here’s a reality check: Unless there’s a seismic political shift from her on down, don’t hold your breath for any meaningful change.
In the meantime, maybe invest in some solid sneakers. You might need to sprint for your life on the subway — or better yet, avoid it altogether.
