In her New Year’s Day Inaugural speech following her 2022 victory, New York Governor Kathy Hochul addressed one of the most serious issues confronting her state: people fleeing New York to flee the Democratic policy.
Her remarks were a far cry from her campaign rhetoric in August, when she urged that her political opponents, including Representative Lee Zeldin, should “Just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong, okay? You are not New Yorkers.”
Many people have followed her advice in recent months and years, escaping New York’s repressive, anti-business, anti-people climate and skyrocketing crime rates for the greener pastures where freedom still exists like Florida and other conservative places like Texas. According to the Census Bureau, New York state will have the most population drop of any state in the union in 2022, while Florida will have the greatest pace of population growth. In the latest census, so many people left the Empire State that they lost a congressional seat in 2021. Now you know why the Democrats want illegal aliens to be counted in the census. For that reason, and because government grants are given out due to population numbers.
In her speech, Hochul criticized this tendency, adding, “We must and will make our state safe. We have to make our state more affordable. And we must reverse the trend of people leaving our state in search of lower costs and opportunities elsewhere.”
Yeah, good luck with that. The Democrats many years ago gave up on trying to govern to make their constituents lives better. Instead, they came up with progressive programs that give away the goodies to the parasite class which has grown significantly bigger in New York ever since Democrat politicians started using that model. Whoda think it?
There have been numerous reasons for New Yorkers to leave the state in recent years, including some of the most brutal COVID pandemic response measures in the country, decisions that seriously harmed New York’s economy but did not slow the spread of COVID-19. High corporate and personal tax rates are another reason, and you would think with such high tax rates, the state would have better ratings in personal and business freedom. New Yorkers are still not getting over New York City mayor Bill de Blasio’s reign of error, which saw many New Yorkers run away from the state. Many who stayed put their eggs in the Eric Adams’ basket, and many of them since his election have run like hell because he’s no better than de Blasio. The same phenomenon happened with people who stayed after Cuomo was run out of town on a rail, hoping that Hochul would spread some sunlight, but she’s even worse than Cuomo in many respects.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELHochul’s speech made no promises to alter or overturn any of her or past leaders’ decisions, nor did it acknowledge that Democrats may have made mistakes in establishing any of these policies. Democrats never admit when their policies cause serious harm to the very people they were supposed to help. What they do instead is they tell you that things would have been much worse had they done nothing at all. Even a third grader knows that’s not true.
Hochul has also drawn criticism from inside her own party for her efforts to reduce crime in New York. Hochul wanted to make big revisions to New York’s contentious bail reform law this year, but met stiff opposition from Democrats in the legislature, despite the bill’s support from New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Some of her measures eventually made it into the state budget proposal, but neither these nor anything else has effectively prevented the flight from New York to greener pastures elsewhere in the United States.
The moral of the story is if you live in New York and you’re a freedom loving person, get the hell out while you still can.
