The Democrat mayor of a small Pennsylvania borough of roughly 14,000 residents has sparked national outcry after he took steps to protect illegal aliens in his town. As WTAE reported, Wilkinsburg Mayor Dontae Comans posted an URGENT COMMUNITY ALERT after he claims residents have seen ICE in the town.
Mayor Dontae Comans said:
“Let me be absolutely clear. Wilkinsburg does not cooperate with ICE. Our borough has a standing ordinance that protects ALL residents from discrimination—no matter your immigration status, nationality, race, religion, gender, or background.”
“Everyone here is family here, we’re Wilkinsburg. And we just want to protect each other, no matter what part of life you’re from.”
“That’s how this country started. It’s all about getting that path to being a resident, and I feel like we need to help them.”
He then asked residents to contact him immediately if they witnessed any ICE activity while offering legal advice:

Know Your Rights when encountering ICE:
— You do not have to speak with ICE without a lawyer present
— You do not have to answer their questions
— You do not have to identify yourself
— You do not have to consent to a search
— You can ask to see a signed warrant — you do NOT have to open your door unless they show on

Given that this man has shamelessly openly defied immigration law, when can our country expect to see him end up in handcuffs?
Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, commonly referred to as the Enumerated Powers, grants Congress the authority to establish a “uniform Rule of Naturalization.” In other words, it is the federal government, not states or local officials, that sets the rules for how non-citizens can become American citizens.
The Constitution uses the term alien to describe someone who resides in the United States but is not a citizen. These individuals may be here legally and are often in the process of applying for citizenship. In contrast, illegal aliens are those who enter the country unlawfully, without going through a legal port of entry or beginning any lawful immigration process.
Our immigration system and its laws are federally established. If they are not enforced, we undermine the very foundation of our nation. Local officials, whether they govern a major city or a small town, do not have the legal authority to create their own immigration policies. They are constitutionally bound to follow federal immigration law—anything less is a direct challenge to national sovereignty.
