A man from Edison, NJ, 64 years old, was hit with a sledgehammer during an attack at Crown Tire on Route 36 in the Port Monmouth section on Friday, according to police. He was taken to the hospital.
The attacker from Philadelphia, Michael Gonzales, 36, was charged with trying to kill the 64-year-old man. According to Middletown Deputy Police Chief Paul J. Bailey, when police arrived on the scene, witnesses were holding him down.
The victim, Rocky Granata, a loving dad and grandpa, was famous all over the country for driving around his Trump RV.

Bailey said the man had “significant injuries to his head” and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by helicopter.

Bailey said that Gonzales hit the victim in the head several times with a hand-held sledgehammer.
The Deputy Chief said that Gonzales also pushed a woman, which made her fall and get hurt. He said that she was taken to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank by paramedics.

Granata’s daughter, Krystal Calise, wrote, “How dare he try to murder my father. Sick kid.” in another post on Granata’s Facebook page about the attack.
In another reply to the same post, Calise said, “No one throws 5 blows to the head of anyone without intention to kill. I can’t believe I almost lost my father.”
Several other people who posted about the issue said that Granata was no longer in the hospital.
Gonzalez was also charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Bailey said that he was being held at the Monmouth County Jail in Freehold Township until a detention hearing.
And we are always told that it’s the Trump supporters who are the violent ones.
