For years, liberals have been shouting from their soapboxes, demanding that Americans “do their part” to save the planet by ditching gas-powered cars and switching to electric vehicles. They flooded the media with climate panic, virtue-signaled about emissions, and rolled out massive taxpayer-funded incentives to make EVs look like the responsible, progressive choice. If you didn’t jump on the electric bandwagon, you were smeared as backward, anti-science, or even anti-Earth. But now that a good number of Pennsylvanians took the bait and actually followed through on this government-backed “green revolution,” what’s the reward? A brand new $200 annual punishment, courtesy of the same politicians who begged you to make the switch.
Pennsylvania’s latest move is a perfect example of how bait-and-switch politics work in blue-run states. The House just passed legislation slapping EV owners with a yearly registration fee of $200 starting in 2025, rising to $250 in 2026. The excuse? EV drivers aren’t paying gas taxes, so the state isn’t collecting enough money for road maintenance. In other words, you’re now being taxed for not polluting, for not using gasoline. How’s that for irony? You did what the Democrats wanted—bought an electric vehicle to cut down on emissions—and now they’re coming after your wallet, anyway.
This isn’t fairness. This is classic Democrat double-speak. First, they lure you in with rebates, tax credits, and emotional appeals about saving the Earth. Then, when enough people make the switch and the gas tax revenue drops, they invent a new fee to make up the difference, targeting the very people they once courted. It proves one thing: the government picks winners and losers, and even when you do what they ask, you still lose. This isn’t environmental justice. It’s economic injustice wrapped in green packaging.
Let’s be clear—this isn’t just about roads or fairness. This is about control. The same people who pushed electric cars as a moral necessity are now using policy to punish people for obeying. If this doesn’t scream “we don’t actually care about you,” I don’t know what does. And it’s a loud, glaring example of why trusting government promises—especially from the left—is a dangerous game for everyday Americans.
This move also points out that the Democrats in Harrisburg refuse to cut spending to make up for the shortfall. Responsible leaders would cut government spending instead of punishing their constituents.
Isn’t it funny how it’s always the American people who are told to sacrifice? We’re the ones expected to give up our hard-earned money, watch our services crumble, and tighten our belts—not because of any real crisis, but because of the boneheaded failures of the very politicians who caused the mess. They botch the policies, and we pay the price. Every time.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELMeanwhile, the government never sacrifices a thing. Not a pay cut. Not a benefit. Not even a fraction of the bloated waste they’ve created. It’s truly remarkable—your kids’ school might lose funding, your roads might go to hell, your taxes might skyrocket—but the bureaucrats? They’re still cashing checks, flying first class, and patting themselves on the back.
Now you know why government workers hate Elon Musk and DOGE. They are never willing to sacrifice anything, even when we’re over $30 trillion in debt.
Here are some key points of what Pennsylvania just did:
-
Pennsylvania House approved a bill imposing registration fees on EV and plug-in hybrid owners.
-
Fees start at $200 for EVs in 2025, rising to $250 in 2026; plug-in hybrids start at $50, increasing to $63.
-
The initiative seeks to offset declining gasoline tax revenues used for infrastructure maintenance.
-
Supporters view it as an equitable solution; opponents worry about potential negative impacts on EV adoption.
-
The legislation is pending further approval from the state Senate and the governor.
I would argue that such a law is in violation of the US Constitution’s Bill of Attainder clause.
Article I, Section 9, Clause 3 states:
“No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.” This clause specifically prohibits the federal government from enacting laws that punish an individual or a group without a trial.
In other words, when the government slaps higher fees on EV owners specifically because they don’t purchase gasoline (which is the point of EV cars), and does so without any kind of trial, hearing, or due process, it starts to look a lot like a modern-day bill of attainder.
That’s when the government singles out an individual or a group for punishment through legislation, not the courts. It’s unconstitutional for a reason: it bypasses every principle of fairness our legal system is supposed to stand on. The Pennsylvania government is now punishing EV owners for not committing any crime. EV owners were encouraged, even incentivized, to switch, then punished after the fact for complying. That’s not policy. That’s legislative retaliation. And it ought to raise serious constitutional red flags.
Send this article out to your friends who live in other states so that they can get a jump on it before their Democrat politicians try the same thing. And next time, vote Republican.
