According to the Daily Mail, Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has proposed legislation that would “require Members of Congress who advocate for providing military support for Ukraine to enlist in the armed forces and serve on active duty in support of a contingency operation.”
She named it the Senators Can Help Underpin Military Engagement and Readiness Act, or the SCHUMER Act, after New York Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Schumer recently warned that young Americans could be put in danger if Congress doesn’t agree to put another $60 billion into Ukraine’s war against Russia, which some see as a huge scheme to launder money for the benefit of the U.S. military and establishment.
Schumer actually insinuated that if he doesn’t get his way, he will push to send younger Americans over to Ukraine to fight in the war against Russia. Sure, he didn’t say those specific words, but the threat was obvious.
“If we don’t aid Ukraine, Putin will walk all over Ukraine. We will lose the war, and we could be fighting in Eastern Europe in a NATO ally in a few years. Americans won’t like that,” Schumer told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski on Monday.

Aside from monsters who injure the weak and innocent, warmongers and war profiteers are among humanity’s most heinous crimes.
Among that class of miscreants, elected officials who leave their own citizens’ borders defenseless and then use that open border as leverage to secure funding for foreign wars—all the while knowing that the alleged “border security” portion of the bill amounts to keeping that border open—hold a special place of dishonor. If that type of action does not constitute extortion, nothing does.
Schumer and anyone else who threatens young Americans with combat unless congressional warmongers and war profiteers get their way deserve to go to hell.
Luna certainly had a similar reaction to Schumer’s words.
Although she did not intend for her bill to become public, she did disclose its existence.
“To whoever leaked my bill: Congratulations, you played yourself. I make no apologies. My bill, the SCHUMER Act, would require Members of Congress to fight on the front lines in Ukraine if they support Schumer’s calls for American sons & daughters to fight,” Luna tweeted out on X on Thursday.

Luna’s tweet also explained one potential source of uncertainty resulting from the Daily Mail title.
According to that outlet, Luna’s measure would oblige members of Congress to serve in the military if they supported Schumer’s $60 billion aid package for Ukraine.
Her tweet, however, indicated that she intended to target senators and congressmen who advocated for US combat forces in Ukraine. The leaked law, as reported by the Daily Mail, supported the same reading.
That legislation, of course, has no chance of passing. She could as well have written legislation establishing term limits or lowering congressional salaries.
Nonetheless, she issued a patriotic declaration. And Congress hasn’t produced something more admirable in a long time.
