On Wednesday, the Senate deemed both articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas invalid in two separate party-line votes. These articles accused Mayorkas of failing to fulfill his duties at the southern border and breaking public confidence.
The first piece claimed that Mayorkas “willfully and systematically refused to comply with the law” on the southern border while serving as DHS Secretary. The second article claimed that he had broken public trust.
Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., proposed a point of order declaring the first item unlawful. The Senate voted 51-48 to declare the first article unconstitutional, with Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AL), voting present. What a coward!
Schumer’s point of order came after Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) declined his request for unanimous consent, which would have established a defined period for senators to discuss and vote on two GOP resolutions as well as a predetermined number of agreed-upon points of order. Schmitt stated that the Senate should hold a full trial on the impeachment articles against Mayorkas rather than following Schumer’s proposed strategy, which would almost certainly result in the articles being dismissed.
So, the Democrats killed two articles of impeachment that had actual merit. All one has to do is look at the news. Mayorkas has allowed over 10 million illegals into the country, putting Americans in harm’s way. More than 24,000 military age Chinese men are roaming our country. Why are they here? We have no idea because Mayorkas allowed them in and never kept track.
But the same Chuck Schumer demanded a Senate trial against President Donald Trump after the 45th president already left office because they wanted to add a new penalty of not being able to run for office again.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELRepublican senators opposed Schumer’s point of order because agreeing to it would virtually void the first article. Several Republican members filed motions, including pleas to adjourn or table the point of order, but none were successful.
“This process must not be abused. It must not be short-circuited. History will not judge this moment well,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), motioning to table Schumer’s point of order.
After repeated efforts to postpone voting on Schumer’s second point of order, which would deem the second article unconstitutional, the Senate approved it 51-49, with Murkowski rejoining the Republicans.
