According to Bellingcat and the AP, researchers tracked a large leak of US classified documents about the Ukraine-Russia war to a gamer-centric communication software called Discord.
“We don’t know. We truly don’t know,” John Kirby, National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, and chief Pentagon liar told reporters on Monday whether the leaks pose a continuing threat.
Kirby stated that the incident has been reported to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for a criminal investigation. He went on to say that President Joe Biden was briefed on the leaks late last week and had kept in touch with national security personnel throughout the weekend.
The New York Times reported on the documents emerging on Twitter and Telegram on Thursday.
Bellingcat researchers, on the other hand, have traced the source of the leak further back in time and to a different program called Discord, where documents circulated as early as January 13.
Discord is a chat program popular with gamers, but it is also utilized by a wide range of other communities, including bird watchers, TV show enthusiasts, and even college lecturers hosting classes. Chat, audio, and video channels are available on the platform. A Discord server administration can create chat rooms that people can go into to communicate with each other via chat messaging or voice.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELAric Toler, Bellingcat’s Director of Training and Research, linked eleven papers with “Top Secret” markings about Ukraine to a Discord server called “Minecraft Earth Map” which was launched on March 4. He claims that the leak was caused by a disagreement between users, one of whom uploaded the slew of documents to win an argument.
Bellingcat was created in 2014 as an “independent investigative collective of researchers, investigators, and citizen journalists brought together by a passion for open source research.”
Seven of the 10 documents found on the Minecraft Earth Map server were later discovered on 4chan and Telegram.
Toler recalls that on March 1st and 2nd, over 30 documents were submitted to WowMao, another Discord channel. Despite having viewed such posts, he was unable to independently authenticate their validity.
Posts in the same style and layout as those submitted to Discord’s WowMao server purportedly also surfaced on a now-defunct server called Thug Shaker Central on January 13. Toler was likewise unable to independently confirm the validity of these posts.
Members of the Thug Shaker Central community allegedly gave him artificially blurred screenshots of Thug Shaker Central documents. According to those who submitted the screenshots, the files leaked to WowMao were simply “the tip of the iceberg” in comparison to the content shared on Thug Shaker Central.
From what we’ve heard already, we have been lied to by the Biden administration on just about everything they have told us about the war in Ukraine. Russia is not losing the war. In fact, numbers were found in the documents showing that Russia has suffered about 16,000 casualties while Ukraine’s casualty count is closer to 100,000. And next month it is being said that Ukraine will run out of the rockets they use to shoot down most of Russia’s missile launches and no one knows if they will be replenished, so it’s all just a matter of a waiting game for Putin.
Remember the days when the federal government didn’t lie about everything? Yeah, me neither.
