After five rounds of closed-door voting, House Republicans chose Minnesota Majority Whip Tom Emmer as their next speaker designate on Tuesday, only for him to withdraw hours later.
Twenty-six Republicans voted against him, and Emmer dropped out.
In the previous rounds of voting, Byron Donalds (R-FL), Kevin Hern (R-OK), Austin Scott (R-GA), Jack Bergman (R-MI), and Pete Sessions (R-TX) were all thrown out. In the fifth round, Emmer beat Mike Johnson (R-LA).
Dan Meuser (R-PA) and Gary Palmer (R-AL) withdrew from the race before voting began.
The vote on Tuesday came exactly three weeks after former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted, and it followed the failed speakership efforts of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH).
Scalise and Jordan both dropped out of the race for speaker earlier this month after failing to get enough Republican support to replace McCarthy.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELEmmer was a previous spokesman for a group that got money from George Soros. Choosing Emmer (R-MN) as their candidate for Speaker is just another insult to the conservative movement.
One could say that former President Donald Trump should be hailed for Emmer dropping out. Trump ripped Emmer a new one in a Truth Social post, which he then texted to House Republicans.
The House has actually adjourned, extending the wait for a speaker by at least one day.
The clown show will reconvene tomorrow at noon.
