In a fascinating piece for the Washington Free Beacon, Matthew Continetti gets into the essence of the MAGA movement and its evolution under Donald Trump’s leadership. The article, titled “Meet the New Boss,” unpacks how Trump has shifted from a political outsider to the driving force of a reshaped Republican Party with some residual effects on the rest of the free world that no longer wants to be globalists.
From Outsider to Powerhouse
Let’s rewind to 2016. Back then, Trump was the ultimate outsider—a “third-party candidate” who essentially hijacked the Republican nomination. Sure, he won the presidency, but allies in Congress? Forget it. Establishment Republicans, often dismissed as “RINOs,” weren’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat.
During his first term, Trump faced resistance on all fronts: Democrats, the mainstream media, and even his own team. Remember Paul Ryan and John McCain? They were supposed to be “on his side,” but their actions often suggested otherwise. And then there was the constant barrage of media attacks, the infamous Russia Russia Russia hoax, and an entrenched Washington establishment, often referred to as “the deep state,” that seemed determined to derail his presidency.
Enter the New Trump
Fast forward to now, and it’s a whole new game. Trump isn’t the political rookie of 2016. He’s seasoned, understands the full extent of presidential powers, and—here’s the best part—he has a party that’s largely unified under the MAGA banner. And MAGA can also be known as America First.
The “Never Trump” crowd? They’re history. People like Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney, Justin Amash, and little Adam Kinzinger are no longer in the picture. What’s left is a Republican Party ready to fight, with Trump leading the charge. No wonder they threw lawfare at him and he was almost assassinated… twice!
Perhaps most significantly, Trump has done something no Republican has in two decades: won the popular vote. His re-election could cement the MAGA movement’s grip on American politics, giving him the power to dismantle entrenched institutions in a way that no president has before.

Here’s the thing—Trump’s rise isn’t just about him. It’s about the failure of the establishment’s go-to strategy: the “politics of personal destruction.” Smear campaigns and character assassination? People aren’t buying it anymore. Whether it’s Trump or figures like Matt Gaetz, Pete Hegseth, or RFK Jr., the public’s trust in legacy media and government narratives has eroded.
Why? Years of bias and deception have taken their toll. Institutions like the Department of Justice, the FBI, HHS, and the CDC, once pillars of trust, now face widespread skepticism. The tipping point has been reached: many Americans no longer believe these entities serve the public good.
I have had a lot of fun over the years watching the liberal Democrats display extinction bursts when Trump doesn’t behave the same way RINOs do when labeled a racist, a sexist, homophobe, an Islamophobic, istaphobic, istaphobe, [INSERT SILLY NAME HERE].
For example, everyone understands the deal. You put your money into the candy machine, and you get to pick which candy you want, which then drops down to the bin for you to retrieve it. You do your part, and in return, the machine does its part. You walk away with a dopamine high and the candy. But what happens when you put your money into the machine and the candy doesn’t come out? You did your part, and the crazy machine didn’t give you the expected result. You go through emotions; most would start to shake the machine. Some might even kick the machine to get it to conclude the deal.
That’s what Democrats go through whenever a Republican doesn’t give the expected result of being called names. Trump causes extinction bursts in the heads and emotions of libnut Democrats. And it’s a beautiful thing to watch.
A Revolution in Motion
The result? The MAGA movement is more energized than ever. Trump has built a team of loyalists who are ready to challenge Washington’s entrenched powers. This isn’t just another political campaign—it’s a full-blown movement to reshape America’s political and cultural landscape.
As Ketti points out, Trump is uniquely positioned to lead this charge. With a public increasingly disillusioned by traditional institutions, he’s using this wave of distrust to dismantle the old guard and transform it into a system that works for the American people more than America’s political elites. And that’s what’s got the elites terrified.
A New Political Era
The MAGA revolution isn’t just about Trump; it’s about a seismic shift in American politics. This movement rejects the globalist, establishment-driven agenda in favor of a populist, nationalist vision that puts everyday Americans first.
What started in 2016 has now reached a boiling point. With Trump at the helm, the administrative state faces an existential challenge. The MAGA movement stands as a testament to the power of the American people to demand real change—and it’s reshaping the nation in ways that will live on for generations.
